I have a headcanon that the Groundhog is a member of an alien race of philosophers and that he once served as an advisor to the House of Lunanoff during the Golden Age. His people never got along well with the Pookas, so he and Bunnymund were constantly butting heads. The Groundhog is also deeply afraid of Pitch Black and will run from the smallest shadow, so Pitch makes a game out of scaring the Groundhog back into his burrow every spring.
