COMMISSION GUIDE
A Helpful Resource
So I've decided to structure a guide to help make commissioning me a little bit easier and to help reduce the amount of FAQ I get in relation to requests and prices. Hopefully this will encourage people to commission me or commission something that they may be too intimidated to inquire or fear may be too pricey! Please note that I request all commissioners read my CONSUMER TOS (VALID) , though I understand that not everyone will. Know that regardless of whether or not these services are read, you will still be held accountable for it's content should you be found in violation.
The information provided within this document is liable to change at any time.
DISCLAIMER
WOAH! This is a lot of information, I don't know if I can read it all!
I understand that this amount of information can be super intimidating and difficult to read all in one sitting! Don't worry, this is a guide, not a requirement! Everything I've written here is to benefit you, the commissioner, and to make transaction and doing business with me easier for the both of us! If you're looking for something specific, you can skim down to the section you feel applies to you or may hold answers to whatever questions you have, and by all means, if your question isn't answered here or in any of the other documents, please feel free to let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate and provide you an answer to your question.
DOs AND DONTs
Let's start with a few simple DOs AND DONTs, I feel that this is important and hope that you take the time to read it!
DON'T TELL ME MY PRICES ARE TOO HIGH;
It's extremely rude when commissioners inform me that my prices are outrageous. I've got a five year education, two different liberal arts degrees, one being in Studio Art, and I've nearly twenty years of experience drawing under my belt. I've been taking commissions for a solid seven years now and I consider myself professional, I work hard to make my commissioners happy, and lastly, I'm trying to make a living doing what I love and what I'm passionate about learning. Don't presume to have the authority or wisdom or experience to tell me what I can and cannot charge for my time, skill, and effort. If you have an issue with this or feel indifferent, then I think it's best you find another artist better fitted to your budget, I won't be the least bit offended.
PLEASE, DO NOT CONTACT ME IN-GAME ABOUT COMMISSIONS;I understand that I am subject to this rule, that sometimes I reach out to a commissioner to update them and/or get a quick and fast opinion so I can continue working to complete their commission but when I'm logged into a game looking to relax and interact and engage, outside of a professional atmosphere and I'm repeatedly messaged regarding a pending commission or interrogated about what I spend my free time doing or enjoying, I feel chased, harassed, and uncomfortable. It's nice to message me and see how I'm doing, I often return the question, but don't ask about my commissions, my list, if I'm working or tell me I'm being irresponsible. Reserve that kind of conversation to dA notes only where I will gladly attend to your inquires/conversation when I'm logged in and ready to communicate with you.
AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME IN-GAME ABOUT COMMISSIONS; This includes asking to place a commission! I'm a little more lenient about this, especially users that haven't commissioned me before but I lose information all the time when it's not properly logged on deviantArt OR my email, where I have quick and easy access and don't have to backtrack through x amount of logs finding old information when you're up next in my list. This includes friends!! I know it's easier to just send me a message over skype or whatever chat client we use, but please be respectful of this request. I understand I am responsible for keeping track of your commission but if you want to work with me, please work with me in helping me keep track of it! I've two places you make relay commission information, change commission information, update commission information and again, those two places are my deviantArt and commission email: MOLTENCHIER@GMAIL.COM.
DO NOT NEGLECT COMMUNICATION WITH ME IF YOU HAVE A PENDING TRANSACTION;
This is a huge issue! Please, don't hide from me if you owe $$ for a pending transaction, I would much rather hear from you, to hear that you either can't afford the commission or are simply experiencing unexpected hardship and please, you're not required to tell me your situation especially if you're uncomfortable doing so. I only need to know what you'd like to do about your pending commission, to find a resolve, a resolution. Failure to abide by this request may result in blacklisting/banishment, please be aware.
COMMISSION OPTIONS
STANDARD PRICE GUIDE; STREAMING PRICE GUIDE
BEING UPDATED
I have two commission sheet options.
On the left is my standard commission prices, on the right is my stream commission prices, best known for my On-The-Spot work.
I understand that these commission sheets may be a bit vague and in-need of updating so allow me to clarify: $#/H stands for per hour. Yes, I work by the hour! Yes, it can lead to very expensive commissions but understand that I can also accommodate a pay-per-session. What's a pay-per-session? It's a commission option for larger commissions, say a large painting or a character reference/species sheet, things that might take a lot of time and are ideally an investment that you might not be able to pay all of upfront! I have many other options available for different commission situations as well. For streaming I typically offer on-the-spot work where I invest in those attending, taking commissions from those attendees. In the same day I typically accept the commission (a head/bust/full-body sketch), accept payment, work, and finishing all in one go. On occasion, I will offer a rare pay-what-you-want commission, where I open commissions to everyone! Only have $10 to throw my way? Throw it my way during a pay-what-you-want session, I'll do my best to work and deliver artwork of equal quality to the payment received. This way I can accommodate to everyone (especially those tight on finances). Below I've elaborated on these commission opportunities.
ON-THE-SPOT;
This commission option is available only during streams and only when I announce. Typically, if I'm feeling up to it I may announce when I'll be taking on-the-spot commissions! What's an onspot, you might ask? An onspot is when the artist accepts slot claims from the attendees of their stream and completes same-day commissions. Need something done quick? Is there an onspot stream announced? Quick! Grab a slot and your commission is likely to see a finish same-day as it was ordered. Payment upfront or after commission completion, and the commissioner even gets to watch!
PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT;
This commission option is available only when announced, and offered either over a social-media like tumblr or during an on-the-spot stream. A pay-what-you-want or PWYW allows for people to throw whatever amount they can afford for art from the artist. It gives people a chance to get something from an artist they admire when finances are tight. It's a great opportunity for those who budget and only have so much they can afford to spend on themselves as well.
PAY-PER-SESSION;
This commission option is available to all commissioners looking to commission something lengthy of time and fairly expensive. Payment is still required upfront with a pre-payment fee, a quote if you will, an estimation of time to start. What does that mean? That means I'll quote you two-three hours (and depending on your commission type will determine the amount per hour), you'll pay for that time upfront by way of invoice and I'll work the time paid. If I finish within the paid time, you're done. If I do not finish, I'll contact you with an update and provide another estimate, when you have the funds I'll deliver another invoice which must be paid, and work the time paid for. This will continue until the commission is finished!
How do I know you're not ripping me off?
- Ask for a stream, watch me work the paid hours, I'm more than open to it and negotiating with your available schedule to make sure you see every minute paid for.
I don't trust you.
- If you haven't the time to sit for two or three hour streaming sessions (and trust me I understand), please understand that you must trust me to put in the promised hours. More often than not I end up working over-time and not charging for the additional hours rather than overcharging for my time, but I'd like to be able to come to an agreement that I be paid fairly and in exchange I'll work honestly. If this doesn't work for you, perhaps you should find a different artist to work with.
