Summary: All Roxas and Axel wanted was to watch a nice quiet sunset at Radiant Garden. But what happens when some unexpected trouble shows up and feelings are revealed?

                     Protecting You

   A brilliant mixture of orange and yellow collided with the red sun, basking the Radiant Garden and all of its citizens in the magical glow. Many of the people went about their afternoon, busily running errands or just lazing about, enjoying the sunset. There were children playing in the streets, their mothers carefully keeping an eye out for the troublemaking youngsters.
   A purple and black swirl of darkness that had suddenly come out of nowhere went unnoticed by the townspeople, not really caring or simply ignoring it. The darkness grew larger in a split second or two, revealing a tall red head and a short blonde, the latter of which had a smile on his face. The portal slowly vanished back into nothingness, leaving the two best friend's alone on this world.
   Slowly handing a blue ice cream bar to the other, the red head sat down lazily on the ledge, occasionally taking a bite of his snack. His lips had formed a straight line, unmoving and thin as it let the blue pieces melt in his mouth.
   The short blonde beside him gingerly licked the frozen treat, letting the beads of sugar trickle on his tongue. His aqua orbs looked at his ice cream with happiness, then turning his attention to the red head beside him.
   The tear drop tattoos on his best friend's cheek seemed to stand out more prominently today, as if they had been darkened by real tears. Axel's eyes seemed to be clouded by a train of thought that Roxas was excluded from, making the blonde feel a little left out. Axel hadn't noticed the concerned look from his best friend, and was instead wrapped up in the battle going on inside him.
   'Today was the day I was supposed to tell him. Tell him how I felt.' Axel glanced nervously at Roxas, who now had the whole ice cream stick in his mouth happily.
   A faint blush appeared on Axel's face as Roxas caught his emerald gaze. Quickly turning away to hide his embarrassment, the red head cursed silently.
   'Now what am I going to do?! AUGH, this could ruin everything!'
   Mentally slapping himself, Axel looked straight ahead at the sunset, which seemed to somehow encourage the red head. Maybe he could tell Roxas how he felt. Maybe he felt the same way. Maybe-
   Axel's thoughts were shattered by Roxas' cry of pain.
   Looking beside him, the blonde had disappeared from sight. Immediately panicking, Axel looked in every direction possible for his best friend. Hearing another yell, Axel looked below him at a horde of Heartless swarming Roxas. The black creatures had drowned out all but the blonde's spiky hair from view, Axel faintly seeing the Keyblade shine in the sunlight. The people who had been previously standing there had made a mad dash for the lives, leaving in their dust Roxas.
   Axel let that familiar burst of energy run through his body, letting the power draw to his fingertips. He grimaced as that shock ran through his arm, the sparks of lightning skimming across his arms. There was a white flash of light, and his pair of chakrams were in his gloved hands within a matter of seconds.
   Those Heartless were going to wish they had never messed with his Roxas. Leaping down from the ledge and landing on both feet, Axel's eyes had a fiery edge to them, slightly intimidating the Heartless.
   The red head called forth the flames, which danced on the points of his chakrams as he swung them at the black creatures, immediately being reduced to a single pink heart that flew into the sky.
   Axel had fought his way to Roxas, who was bleeding and barely able to keep the Keyblade in his hands. Wiping the blood from his mouth, Roxas stood up, turning his back to Axel and facing the group of Heartless which had surrounded them.
   Several curse words streamed through Roxas' mouth at the sight of the infinite Heartless, earning him a shocked expression from the taller Nobody.
   "Your Somebody kissed Kairi with that mouth?"
   Roxas rolled his eyes at Axel's sarcastic question, returning his attention to the fast approaching Heartless.
   Their yellow eyes glinted as they stepped forward, claws outstretched for the hearts that weren't even there.
   Axel and Roxas slashed at the never ending swarm of Heartless headed their way, exhaustion hitting them like bricks.
   Axel winced, shoving his chakram into another one of the monsters. Soreness was ebbing away at his arms, tired from the repeated swinging motion. He looked over his shoulder. Roxas wasn't doing too hot either.
   The short Keybearer was even in more pain than he was, the tiredness bearing down on top of his wounds. Roxas took one final stab, collapsing on the ground, letting the Keyblade dissipate into the air.
   Axel's eyes became more determined as he continued to fight off the creatures. This was his fight now, and the outcome would decide life or death for the both of their existences. Axel fought harder against the horde, stabbing, dodging, and slicing his way through the group.
   At a last minute attempt to get rid of the Heartless with the remainder of his strength, Axel let flames fill the area, consuming the Heartless, and leaving only the dying screeches of the once human beings echoing across Radiant Garden. The fire licked his body as his hand swept over the burning battle scene, letting the flickering light and heat die down.
   Gently cradling Roxas in his arms, Axel pulled out a roll of bandage from his cloak pocket and began wrapping the blonde's arms in the material. Roxas' eyes were staring back at him, matching the color of a clear blue sky.
   "A-axel...." Roxas' short call for his best friend made the pyromaniac's head turn.
   "Yeah Roxy?"
   Roxas grinned and coughed slightly.
   "I don't think I've ever seen a sunset this beautiful before."
   Weakly gesturing at the combination of color that decorated the sky, the sunlight streamed over their bodies, and lit up their faces.
   Axel's expression had turned into an amused one as he leaned forwards to kiss Roxas' forehead.
   "Same here Roxas."
   Roxas' face flushed ten shades of red at the sign of affection from the red head. He couldn't believe any of this was actually happening. Maybe he was hallucinating again. But Axel was there, stroking his head, the burnt cinnamon smell coming off of him.
   "I love you."
   Those unspoken words had finally been released from their prison inside Axel's head and had made their way to his mouth. Axel's whole body felt hot and cold sensation wash over him as he waited for Roxas to answer.......

   "I love you too."
