Description This week's Inktober has been all about my favourite book 'Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell' by Susanna Clarke. I've been meaning to do some artwork for it for years, and I finally got round to it. Also, i wanted to get my own interpretations of some of the characters down on paper before the BBC adaption comes out.

UPDATE: Changed the layout of these since i decided having them all in one line is annoying and awkward.
Also, also, also: i was really nervous about the BBC adaption - like, i was sitting there on Sunday night feeling genuinely, nail-bitingly nervous - but the first episode was fabulous and I'm so incredibly happy about it and I won't stfu about it to my friends even though none of them care because they haven't read the book because they're awful people.

Great sketch! The book is amazing! I think BBC did a great adaptation.

Thank you!
Yes, i quite enjoyed the BBC adaption - it was much better than I anticipated it would be. Though I wasn't very happy with the way they chose to portray the raven king - my favourite! D:

Yes, definitely better than expected. But I agree. There was also a lot of build up for the Raven King, and then it just felt like a let-down. I was very happy with most of the other characters though.

Thank you!!
Oh good! I love hearing that other people like it, too! As TV adaptions of books go i think it's great, and has got the atmosphere down perfectly.

I've not yet read the books, so I'm having to cross-reference things (as I'm all for accuracy too), but so far, I agree, they've done good!

I never finished reading that - no reason, really, I just put it down at one point and never got around to picking it back up again. But these drawings have piqued my interest, and I think I will have to read it again!

Haha, I have done that before. Sometimes with books i ended up really enjoying.
I would definitely recommend it - and i always urge people not to skip reading the footnotes. Sometimes one doesn't want to read away from the main story, but they really add depth to the world and characters.

I'd forgotten that it had footnotes (it was years ago). I love fiction with footnotes - I think it makes it feel more intimate, somehow, like the author is sharing a private joke with you and you alone. Okay, I am definitely giving Jonathan Strange another shot!
