Description

In Brittany, there lurks a being known as the Ankou--a tall gaunt workman, often wearing a wide-brimmed hat and accompanied by a death cart drawn by horses or oxen. Stories vary of who this man really is--some say he is none other than the fratricide Cain, forever doomed to roam the earth as a harvester of the dead, while others say that he is the ghost of the last man to die each year,forced to fill new graves before yielding to a new successor. Most people simply accept him as Death himself, and hide at the sound of his creaking cart.
