Another scene with Territha and Mindy: [link]

Territha is a self-proclaimed "good witch", or at least she sure tries to be. She comes from an advanced far future civilization that she can't remember too well, but she's sure it was a nice place and that everything was happy all the time.

However, because of a very slight mishap, she and her daughter had to flee through a portal; they are now travelling through an ancient feudal land.

Mindy the turtle is Territha's daughter, riding safe and sound in her shiny flying armor suit, which has kept her safe from everything all the time. She is safe and has always been safe and her mommy has always kept her safe and would never let anything happen to her.

Territha explains that baby mermaids are always turtles, and that this is perfectly normal. Sometimes it takes them a little longer to grow up and be mermaids, but there's nothing wrong with that.

She happily looks forward to the day when Mindy will grow up to be a mermaid just like her mommy.

------------------------------------

As a Good Witch, Territha mostly likes to heal and help people. She has developed a strong personal attachment to a small fishing village, and is strongly considering settling down there.

Though she has a hard time explaining why, she feels a strong connection to these people, like this is the one place in the universe that feels like a home anymore...

After a slight incident with a cute little Leng Spider in the village Territha has started to notice something is wr-Everything Is Fine.

Her left eye has started twitching again- again?- and she's developed a bit of a habit of laughing maniacally, and Mindy has to wash her mommy's gloves and keep them white or they get a little dirty and stained but nothing is wrong.

-------------------------------------

Her hair is black, with no gray at all, because she's too young for that and that would be silly. Her body is completely intact. Her right arm (not visible) is scaly and silver like her tail, but she was born that way.

Her right eye is completely fine she hasn't seen anything weird with it or anything like that why do you ask? It has a slight habit of not blinking.

Her singing voice is gentle and soothing, and she feels it is her best trait; it keeps Mindy happy.

--------------------------------------

The other day, Mindy learned to talk! Yay! : )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In reality, it is Territha who has remembered how to listen, though she still does not hear her daughter's words quite clearly; the time will come.
Mindy knows just a liiiiiittle more than her mother does about what's really happening, and assures her poor deluded mommy that things will be okay.
This world and these events are all quite real, but only Mindy truly understands their connection to another time and realm. Though only she understands what the two of them must do in the end, she will need help from her mommy.
After all, Love and Understanding can fix everything...
The real world explanation:
The Rogue Trader campaign I was paying in went on hiatus due to a lack of other interested players, so the DM decided to run a a Pathfinder campaign (where each player also gets their own Mecha, as defined by the D20 Mecha handbook by Guardians of Order). This is the result.
Statistically speaking, Territha is an ordinary witch, currently level 5, though she wields a 70 mecha-point 'fishing pole' staff (I like to call it the Staff of Thunder, being a Dragon Quest II fan) which can shoot stun lighting (4d6 non-lethal damage, which can whittle things down, but not kill them).
When she's not in the water, Territha flops around in a very slow and undignified fashion; and with Strength 7 (that's -2 bonus), she's pretty bad at swimming by Mermaid standards, too... and of course, she can't wear any armor, and Mindy can only do so much to protect her. This is all quite fun, as a player.
Mindy is her turtle familiar (using the crab familiar stats, except the bonus is +2 to fortitude instead), and she rides in a little 330 point mecha, which [redacted]
Story-wise, Territha is really a Witch and really a Tech-Priestess, at once; both worlds are real. She is actually the very same person in both, as is Mindy, rather than merely parallels or alternates.
Both worlds are also a lot creepier and harsher (and full of horrifying beings that belong in neither world) than Territha is currently able to cope with.
(For those who are familiar with Leng Spiders: No, no Territha did not remotely kill one herself; by rights she should be it's brainwashed minion, or dead. She did, however, mutilate the body when it was already mortally wounded by others, rooting through it's too-many odd-numbered entrails, under the mistaken impression that it had eaten a child from the village.)
The other people they meet (the other PCs) may not have any link to the World of Grim Darkness, though a few (most likely NPCs) still may.
After all, Tech Priestess Territha came from a (still-under-construction, even as it was evacuated) Forgeworld that, generations ago, was a Fuedal world...
Though Territha tries hard and does her best, she is very lost, desperate, and sad, and trying her best to make a little home to hide away with her daughter, and to to be kind to others. In many ways, it is as if she were the child and Mindy were the mother...
