Description Tama means ball in Japanese. Chama is a way of calling someone of a high status "chan" without insulting them.

I used chama because it rhymes, too!

This is the sketch for a solar plate engraving in printmaking class. I'll show you the prints when I get some more!

Drawn in pencil and gone over with pen.

First of all, what's a solar plate?

Second of all, this looks great. It really doesn't look your style though. Absolutely not a bad thing, just wanted to comment that.

I'm kind of glad! This is my realistic/anime style that I usually use for school stuff A solar plate is sorta complicated to describe . . .

It's this metal backed plate with orange stuff on top. You make a transparency with your drawing or photo, or draw onto the transparency. You expose the plate to direct sunlight, or a tanning bed light with a stochastic screen (a specific type of halftone screen) on a transparency without your artwork first. Then you take out the screen and expose you image. After that when you stick the plate into plain water, the orange stuff becomes gooey and your image will start to show up. The gooey stuff will come off in the places where you had black lines, creating a surface to print with!

You reharden the plate with the light and voila! You're ready to print!

I'll scan the plates to show you, but I don't know how well you'll be able to see the lines, they are super faint!

Oh that sounds really neat! If you get the chance, take some pictures of the process (obviously where light won't hurt it), and show it off!
