Description
Your words, they burn, and the crackling embers sear my once beating heart. All you say is truths, I know, but for once All I prayed for was a lie. Eyelids, fluttering softly over waterfalls of tears. I stifle it all and force a smile, though behind these tired eyes, beneath that plastered smile, there is defeat. You speak, your raspy voice offering a logic I can never refute. Trembling, as a brittle autumn leaf in the breeze, I collect myself. I nod, knowing you're right and don again the forced smile-- maybe it can conceal the drops forming in my eyes, clinging to my lashes longing to trail their way down my cheeks. I try to speak once, twice-- my whole mouth becomes an arid desert and I forget how to form the right words so I just smile, praying to whatever God may exist in this life to take mine from me.
