Hmmm ... this picture is a draw At least in the means of pros and cons. On the bright side: The expression, pose and concept of cutting with shadows work well together with the title. It's a nice approach to a classic portrait. But on the dark side there are: Composition. With cutting so much with darkness you squeeze the portrait in a too small area. Lighting. Your whole picture ( at least what's visible ) is rolled flat in the medium tonal range. There is a little darker tone at the eye ... but everything else is too weak. Not a single highlight beside the essential eye reflection. No shaded highlights or shadows to contour the face. That's where the image loses a lot of expression. Unfortunately I have to say.

Thank you very much for the critique, there sure was some good thoughts in it. I have to say that the blackness crop is unintentional, the image was this large and I wanted to keep the feel of the image with the facial position where it is, so you can almost sense the rest of the upper body etc. If I would add a more empty area around her the face would have to be smaller (because I dont upload to large pictures here) and that made it loose a bit of details I liked.

There isnt supposed to be to much shadows in this picture (there are though, the whole right side of the face is in shadow) because I really liked the milky porcelain feel of the skin.

Thank you so much! You dont see a lot of critique on deviantART even if its an art-site, its nice with a change.

That's the kind of thanks I appreciate

Oh and btw. You might give lightpainting a try to achieve those effect of porcelain soft skin. The long exposure and the soft light really give the skin a dreamy touch. Check my scraps for an example on how it looks on a model.

Rating=1. Great capture! I like the way the eyes are positioned straight at the camera and while they aren't too close you can still feel emotion in them..a sense of checking a person out or of insecurity mixed with confidence or even as if you've just felt a chill down your spine. Neat work
