Round 3 (Finale) entry forThe theme was Halloween, but was limited to theming the costume based on a few things. These things were almost all based on stereotyping various cultures, and I wasn't exactly keen on that sort of thing. I was worried, until I saw that one option was 'pirate'.
Genki is dressed as the dreaded Marquise Spinneret Mindfang from Homestuck, showing off her prize of boondollars and boonbucks.
Mindfang was a notorious troll pirate captain from the alien planet Alternia, sailing the seas with her crew, plundering everything along the way.
She had the power of immense luck and fortune, as well as mind-controlling lower-blooded trolls than her, but was extremely cocky. When she heard the law was coming after her, she only took it as a joke. When legislacerator Neophyte Redglare came, she pummeled Mindfang, burning one of her eyes out (which is the reason Genki has a red sclera contact in one eye), and ripping her arm off.
Mindfang was then brought to trial, but Redglare had mistakenly had trolls that were lower-blooded than Mindfang in the room. Mindfang mind-controlled them all, making them attack and hang Redglare. Mindfang then grabbed Redglare's weapon, a sharp-ended cane, and fought off His Honorable Tyranny, a gigantic monster of the court, using her 'bad' arm. She lives to fight another day.
TL;DR MINDFANG IS A BADASS BITCH AND NEEDS TO BE RESPECTED. I think someone as fearless as Mindfang would interest Genki enough to dress up as her.
Anyway, I'm also supposed to talk about why I 'deserve' to win? I'd rather not act so pretentious and self-absorbent. I entered this contest to win, yes, but no one 'deserves' to win anything. I am not entitled to the prize, as much of an effort as I put in. I'd like to win and exchange the points prize for cash, however. Even if I can't, winning something would be nice. I'm still a tad sore from the last pageant-like contest I joined, since I'm pretty sure I would have won, but the host fled and was never heard from again.
If I win I feel good about myself and that's all I'd really like. It'd be a nice feeling.

I'm a tad confused. Is this cosplay or did you design it yourself? Because if it's cosplay, I thought we had to design it ourselves. o:
But either way, I love the outfit. My favourite part is the blue patterns/details. They add a lot to the outfit, without being too over-bearing. I envy how your lines and colouring are very smooth too, I can never get my cell shading to not be wobbly. |D
Ugh I definitely agree with you on stereotyping the outfits. I'm worried that I might end up doing that, even though I DO have some Egyptian culture research from my art project this year. Not really the costume I wanted to do but...
Ah and I also agree with the 'why I deserve to win' part. That would make me seem arrogant, and that's not really how I want to act. :/

It's a cosplay, but I added my own designs into it, since you don't see Mindfang too clearly in the actual comic (she's usually colored all black with details for the coat and face). The hat I designed myself, and I made the coat open at the chest as well (it's not clear if it's open to expose her chest or not in the comic). Everything else is based on what references of Mindfang I could get from the comic.
I mean, it said to dress your character up as one of the options, and pirate was one of them so I instantly thought of Mindfang. Halloween's one of the best times to cosplay outside of conventions, so seeing someone dress up as a character for this round seemed fitting. Whatevs though uwu

Normally hate pirates but Mindfang has an amazing design, I don't get why people hate the Serket girls if anythingI think they should put their hate towards the actual bad guys

I won't lie, Vriska was my least fav troll when I first started. I don't really have one anymore though haha. Serkets are great!

In all honestly I don't hate any HS characters, not even the badies, I too hated Vriska when I first read her pesterlogs and all the stuff about her, I cant hate any of the villains, without villians there wouldnt be a plot!

Oh yes, everything must be gleamed to an extent! I'm okay with fantasizing other cultures a bit as long as it's done in a nice way and the author is aware that it's just fantasy.
