It all started one night. We’ve been trying to recover this land of fallen gods from the tragedy that befell it, when I noticed that my partner, Amaterasu, looked at the moon intently as if she was trying to find something there, I asked her, she didn’t bark she just kept looking at it, for several nights, it started to worry me, was there another threat looming in the remnants of my long-gone civilization?

After many days, I gave in and departed along with Amaterasu to the Moon, as we landed, melancholy and sadness filled my heart as I watched the ruins of what once was my home. Then I saw her, a tall woman with blue eyes like the ocean and long blonde hair, much like mine. I knew who she was, the other member that escaped the cataclysm which I forbid myself to make any contact back in Nippon, it would only make things worse, I thought.

Amaterasu didn’t hesitate and ran right towards her, she seemed confused at first and I wondered how she made it all the way here on her own. I noticed her glare, such intensity I’ve never seen before, I could swear I blushed but she never mentioned it. She was curious, she never saw someone that looked like her, I empathized yet felt guilty for ignoring her all these years.

Then I realized why Amaterasu wanted to come here with such desperation, I still don’t know how much time she spent there but I could see she was almost fainting from starvation.

We returned to the Celestial Plain, this time, with our new guest, Amaterasu was always content and playful around her. She started to be curious about everything regarding the Moon and her people, our people. She couldn’t understand the symbols or what happened to the tribe not to mention how she was actually capable of moving such a rocket just with her mind. I was unsure at first, teaching her could cause more trouble to the already doomed land but suddenly it happened, slowly but steady her powers were manifesting, I wasn’t sure if it was my influence or the fact that she made contact with her home, but I had to make sure things would be under control so I taught her all I knew, never thought it’d be the challenge it turned out to be, she was stubborn at times, trying to do things her way and ending with disaster, usually.

The more time we spent together the better I felt in her company, never felt such a thing before, it was perhaps those intense eyes, her smile, her touch or maybe the long chats beneath the moonlight. I never let myself get distracted with other thoughts than the main goal of defeating Yami and his forces, I was, this time, permitted to feel and experience this like never before. Now I understand what Nagi and Susano felt. So many years living without this made me realize what I’ve been missing, letting go of this feeling and the chance to give all my love to someone is something I’m not willing to do.

Oh, the scandal it’d cause if my people knew that I’m in love with the Princess of the Moon, ma chère Kaguya.

Another very rare ship (Or should I say Ark??) approaching! xD

Anyway, the first time I played Okami I didn’t actually think of this, but since I like to replay games (Sometimes several times if I like them a lot) I get the chance to have second thoughts, set theories, etc. and this appeared as a possibility to me, actually the only ship I like that isn’t canon, perhaps Oki/Kai would be interesting too, but I’m not as into it as I’m into this.

I did the sketch of this pic in 2018, when I first played Okami, yep, it’s been between my files for a long time. I decided to redraw it and finish it in November 2022, but didn’t have the chance to actually work on it until now. It was a challenge trying to figure out how Kaguya’s kimono might’ve looked like without that bamboo obi she wears lol.

I originally wasn’t planning to add a background or to add the real moon summoned by Amaterasu in the game but I thought it was a nice touch, including the kanji of course x3

The bamboo grove would be easy to guess why I added it if you played the game, Kaguya is found by Mr. Bamboo and his wife in one as a baby, so I think she might be drawn with such places (Assuming there’s one too at the Celestial Plain)

Amaterasu’s design corresponds to that with her full power, it is my favorite design for her and at that point of the story she should look like that though, she looks badass like that haha x3

Now, I know the story I wrote doesn’t mention the other members of the Moon Tribe that, apparently, survived the cataclysm and that’s because I only take Okami (Hideki Kamiya’s work) as canon, Okamiden wasn’t written or directed by him so, until he confirms that all that happened in Okamiden was, in fact, canon I’d consider that game as a spin-off. To be honest, I noticed he didn’t work on that game the very first seconds I started playing it lol xD

Now, you might think Waka is over 300 years old according to the game while she’s younger, well, we have to assume that Kaguya is also very old too, she was in a hibernation-sorta state inside the rocket, which I believe escaped the Moon way before the cataclysm happened, if we are to assume she’s the actual Moon Princess her family being royalty might’ve had improved powers and could’ve prophesized the fall of their civilization with much more anticipation than any other member of the tribe, which may have had similar powers to Waka.

But that’s enough, I might explain more about some theories and other stuff I have about Okami in the future otherwise I’ll make this description too long hahaha xD
