Β This kind of makes me wonder if Professor Callaghan will make a return in the sequel to Big Hero 6. I learned that Walt Disney Animation Studios was planning to make one in the future (besides Disney XD making a TV series based on the original movie).Β Β Other than that, I am happy to see a picture like this. Should Callaghan get a second chance, then this is something that would definitely happen.Β

I've never had a Disney villain who I wanted to punch in the neck...yet still hug and comfort, since I know he's hurting.
This movie really does give you all of the emotions...

The biggest tragedy of this is that if he try uses his students on trying to his daughter back, instead of revenge, he would had riding with daughter to hostile, instead of being in back of a squad car, headed for jail.

Here I am, clicking thru your work ..."Hey, I've so gotta write and say how much I'm loving your Big Hero 6 art"
... then this.
BAM
Got me right in the feels.
(I'm a 60+ years guy, and my one and only daughter lives too far away, so that's where this hit me. I'm gonna write to her right now and tell her I'm flying over next month. Big Thx!!)

Well, yeah. Serendipity, really.
We all walk around with emotional triggers ready to be pulled.
I've been known to nudge a few people into new experiences and different life-paths. But I wasn't trying to; they were just really.
Anyway, I emailed her, and with luck I shall be going to New Zealand soon. (Also sent her a link to your art.)
Thank you!!!Β

This movie has depth. "Bad" guy has a big cause. "Good" guy can turn bad. Big faith can come from "supportive" guys. And who knows but this movie ends up good wins in its deeds with tears of an audience like me!Β

Thank you for this "lost scene." This should very much have been shown. It seemed for all his pain, though wrongfully lashing out at those responsible with vigilante violence, he should have been allowed a scene of at least feeling some sort of inner peace at her being alright. Instead, we have to imagine him hugging her from beyond a pane of glass with a phone to his ear. Just a tragic character turned villain.

That's the beauty of it. In Callaghan's mind, he was the *hero*, trying to wreak vengeance from the greedy villain who took his daughter away from him. It's not his personality that makes him evil (dialogue suggests he's always been grandfatherly and friendly, indicating he was a good person once), it's his choices. He was so consumed by his pain that he didn't let grief run its course and let his anger cloud his judgment. It's a Marvel tradition that villains are rarely purely evil, just complex and really, really convinced that they're doing the right thing even though to the audience it most definitely isn't.
One wonders if he could've realized that his daughter was alive if he spent his grief doing something healthy and be able to save her, perhaps with help from the Hamadas (come on, you *know* Tadashi will agree and get Hiro dragged into it).

All in all, Yama isn't a good person so there's him, but we didn't get to know him all that well.
Within the plot itself, it's not as easy to answer. While Callaghan is the bad guy as he plays the role of villain, it's heavily implied that he was a good man. This is reminiscent of real life, where few people are absolutely 100% good or evil. Moreover, Callaghan isn't a psychopath; he's perfectly capable of caring for others.Β The choices, not the personality, determines who the villain is in the movie. Β He consciously chose his actions because he thought he was doing the right thing, which makes him sympathetic at the same time chilling and complex.
Hiro could very well have become a villain (talk about nominal irony) because he nearly followed through with the same choice Callaghan made: to gain emotional recompense for a loss by killing who he holds responsible. Hiro, however, choseΒ to reconsider killing Callaghan once talked to; Callaghan did not.
