Description Argh. I didn't notice any descriptions of Holly having darker skin until the fourth or fifth book and I still can't get used to the idea.
Anyways. Artemis and Holly, from the Artemis Fowl books. This particular scene is from The Lost Colony, the fifth book.
Extra credit if you can read the Gnommish.
haha I hope I got the quote right

"You saved me."
"It never happened."

I love putting Gnommish on my pictures as well X3

Is this in oil pastel and pen?
I love how you colored the writing. Light turquoise just seems RIGHT for Gnommish, eh?
I especially love Holly's hair X3 and the detail on her suit is awesome.
Great work!!!

Hehe, yeah X3
No, actually, I used colored pencils for this. And pen.
Yeah, it does :3 it seems like a language that would be written in some variation of blue or green.
Thank you very much ^^ Holly's hair is really difficult for me, mostly cause it's so short. I've seen people draw her a million different ways, so I was a little indecisive. But I'm happy with how it turned out.

Aha, I see. It looked like pastels at first because of the layers, but the more I look at it the more it seems like colored pencil (I love using colored pencils too)
*Nods*
Well, you pulled it off marvelously!!
Yeah, people draw her so many different ways O_O light-skinned, dark-skinned, medium skinned, flat-chested, full-chested, tall, short, long hair, short hair, buzz cut, tight outfit, loose outfit... TOO MUCH XP
I just scoured the books for any concrete description of her. Apparently she has medium-brown/tan skin, big eyes, short, gymnast-like figure (I decided she isn't full chested, because when is the last time you saw a well-endowed gymnast??), a slightly hooked nose, long fingers, a pointed chin, high cheekbones, wide forehead, and inch-long buzz-cut auburn hair (except in TAC, where she grows it out some. But she cuts it again in TLG ) and she's extremely pretty ^_^.
I think you did really well on her KEEP POSTING ART.

Ah, I see. They do look a bit like pastels, indeed..
I know, right? I was looking for references but it really didn't help at all because everyone draws her differently XD
Haha, yeah, I agree with you on the gymnast thing. She's always seemed to me like a more flat-chested type. I really don't think I'll ever be able to draw her with a buzz cut, though XD super short hair is waaay out of my comfort zone.
Hehe, thank you very much ^^ I definitely plan to. I'm considering drawing some fake screenshots (mostly scenes from Atlantis Complex) once I get a tablet... what do you think? :3

Yeah- have you seen how she's drawn in the graphic novels?!
Yup, trust me, it's hard to run around all day when you're curvy XP
It took me a really long time to get used to her super-short hair- the first time I drew her, her hair was longer than a buzz-cut ( [link] ) but I showed it to my best friend and she was like "Wow, I like his outfit " XP I think it said in the Opal Deception that her hair was an inch long (or maybe even half an inch), which would make it a teenier longer on her than it would be for humans. But I'm thinking of cutting my hair short, myself, just because it would be so much easier to keep care of (and also, when I step out of the shower I could fling my hair around and water would fly everywhere, unlike now when my hair just slaps me in the eye)
That would be AWESOME!!

Hmm... I read the first graphic novel once, but that was way back in elementary school, so I don't really remember what she looks like XP
Pfft, your friend thought that was a guy? I guess she didn't notice the cleavage XD though a lot of the times in anime, you can only tell male and female characters apart by looking at their chests. I've mistaken boy characters for girls a lot of times, since there are so many with super long hair..
Yeah, having short hair would be really nice. My hair is a little below my waist, and I hate blow-drying it, so after I shower I always end up with wet hair for two hours or more. *sigh*
Hehe, you think so? Yay! I'll definitely do some then. Just a couple more weeks...

I keep googling things, but I figure since the first commenter got it.....Ah, I looked anyway--it is an interesting language! Wiki has a translation of all the text on the page-bottoms.....

Anyway, I love the eyes, particularly Holly's--you could get lost in hers...
Am I too old to read Artemis Fowl?

Oh no, not at all! They're super great books for adults and kids alike.
Yeah, they've got the translations online for all Gnommish on the bottoms of the pages, but I like to translate them myself. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment o3o I also figured out the code myself, too.

Really? You did it without a lexicon of any kind, like code-breaking? Very cool!!

Mikisakiiro In reply to cddmanful [2012-11-30 02:17:33 +0000 UTC]

Well in the first book, they've got a section from a fairy book (written in Gnommish) and the translation on the next page, so you can figure out which symbol is which letter quite easily, and it has most of them there already.

That must have helped! Still, it is a bit weird at first, like how the "e" is done....

I might, honestly think I should get back into the hang of reading books because if I'm to become an Author/Illustrator someday, I need to get back in touch with novels and artwork that relates to the books or is in them.
