I got some time tonight to work on this! I concentrated on simply building up forms tonight. I got the ribcage on and that was all she wrote for the strength of the armature. Apparently I didn't choose a low enough gauge of wire. Oh well! Lesson learned there! It worked out for the best though, because I actually had to put in an additional support on the back, which I'd wanted to do anyways but wasn't sure that it'd look as good! Turns out I love the way that it flows there. I would have gotten more done, but that was almost a 30 minute impromptu armature repair.
