     My name is Gerard Arthur Way. I am a Vampire. The year is 2099. We are in the midst of a war.
     The Mayans predicted that the world would end on December 23, 2012. They were correct… well, partly.
     On that day, the planets aligned. The sun was blocked out by Venus and Mercury. Most people expected an explosion of some sort. Some even thought that a meteor would wipe out human life, like the dinosaurs. Not even close!
     On that day, a strange phenomenon happened. Well, actually, two strange phenomena happened. The first happened just as the sun started to disappear behind Mercury. Strange bright lights fell from the sky and hit about one-third of Earth's human population. It seemed to hit very specific individuals. I was one of these individuals.
     Now, this first phenomenon had very immediate effects. The heart stopped pumping, and all vital organs shut down. Blood ran dry in the veins. It was almost as if we died, but we were still alive and well. It was considered a "miracle" at the time. But trust me, it wasn't.
     As soon as the sun rose again, all who had been hit by the first rays were scurrying to find somewhere safe. Our skin burned at the simple UV rays of sunlight. As it turned out, the "miracle" was really us turning into Vampires.
     Now, the second phenomenon happened just as the sun was starting to come out again. As Venus gave way to sunlight, all the Vampires hid from the UV rays. But, just as the sun peaked through, more beams of light came falling down, hitting another third of the population as it had before. Only this time, there were some not-so-immediate effects.
     However, nearly a month after the alignment, it was a full moon. All the phenomena who hadn't become vampires, changed into a wolf over night. Ever since that night, some have learned to control their ability and can change into a Werewolf without a full moon. But since the Humans figured out about us Vampires, Werewolves were never considered a "miracle".
Now, what you must understand is that neither the Vampires nor the Werewolves started this war. It was the Humans that started this war, but no one would admit it.
    You see, a Human created a serum that could potentially cure this "disease". His name was Dr. Acula. He was creating the serum to save his Vampire wife.
    Dr. Acula had been working for years on this serum, but to no avail. The closest thing he could create for a cure was excruciatingly painful and would probably inflict death. He thought he was so close to finding the cure, but then, just as he felt he was on the brink, he was murdered.
    To this day, no one knows who killed him, but the Humans didn't care. They wanted a cure, and they wanted it badly. The serum was never truly tested and was given to five hundred Vampires and five hundred Werewolves. All one thousand died a slow and painful death.
     The day that one thousand light-affected bodies were piled up was the day peace was corrupted. One Vampire went crazy and killed five hundred Humans. A Werewolf followed suit. Ever since that day, the Humans, armed with silver, wooden stakes, holy water, and the serum, became Hunters. And it was their mission to destroy all light-affected beings.
     Vampires were enraged by this turn of events. We wanted to get back at the Humans. Just because one of our own killed the Humans, again, they killed us first, does not mean we all deserved to die. We struck back. We would infiltrate the Humans. We would gain their trust. And finally, we would kill them, torture them, or turn them into one of us. Needless to say, the last option appealed to no one, but it was very effective torture. So really, there were only two options: death or torture.
     The Werewolves had a different idea. The Werewolves wanted to restore peace. They even killed their own if it was to restore peace. The only Wolf they ever had to kill, though, was the one that killed five hundred Humans. All the Werewolves kept Humans and Vampires away from each other. The Wolves infiltrated us while we were infiltrating the Humans and took us down. They never took down a Human, because, as far as anyone was concerned, the Humans had the fire power. It would be a lot safer to take down a Vampire rather than a Human. Basically, the Werewolves were the only thing keeping the world from blowing itself up.
     Then came the year 2069. The Humans had already rid the world of most of the Werewolves and there were only a handful of them left. On October 9, 2069, the Werewolves went extinct. Coincidentally, that was also the last day of sunlight. The same day the Werewolves went extinct was the day the sun burned out and Vampires were able to go above ground once more. This way, it was much easier to kill Humans. And yet, at the same time, it made it much easier for the Humans to know who were Vampires, seeing as millions of people suddenly appeared at the loss of sunlight.
     Without the Werewolves, there is no peace. Without the sunlight, there is nothing separating the Vampires from the Humans. Without anything holding us back, there is nothing keeping us Vampires from killing the Humans… and nothing keeping the Humans from killing the Vampires.
