Description
Freya, the goddess of fertility from the recently released Sega/The Creative Assembly title Viking: Battle for Asgard.The task was to achieve a rather realistic and more detailed feel of the in-game character.
Since was used for life-size standee prints, the artwork has an extremely high resolution, it was a challenge to bring in all the details while preventing from a too stiff and unnatural look with that huge size. 100 percent done in Painter X and Photoshop CS3, no use of 3d or photo manipulation.
Commissioned by SEGA/The Creative Assembly.

I totally skipped it at first b/c I was SURE that is was done in 3D, but I read on Sergej that no 3D programs were used I was like "...wait a min". That it incredible! just unbelievable how you pull this kind of realism!!! I'm blown away. How long did it take?

did you use ref for this :\ how did you learn to draw... did you do everything from imagination... or at start you used ref to understand how things are... :\ this scares me the most... when i see artist like you saying No Ref :\ makes me feel weak cuz i use ref not to make the full build but to make nice details around my concept...

She's quite a bit on the thin side, isn't she? She looks more like a fashion model than a fertility goddess. I'd expect a fertility goddess to have curvy hips at least. Don't get me wrong, she's gorgeous by American media standards. But no Viking would ever look twice at a woman that skinny, and those legs are anatomically impossible-- nearly twice the length of human legs; even Barbie dolls don't have legs that long.
While I realize that I am a lowly art student and you are a professional, and that various other experienced artists have remarked on how flawless it is, I must respectfully disagree. This doesn't look like the goddess Freya. It looks like Heidi Klum.
