Description A side street in the old city of Damascus, on the left is a trading post/hotel, in a previous era traders would arrive in Damascus or any silk road stop and would rent a room and space in one of these places and would live there until they have sold all their goods(sometimes taking months) and then return home.

I love the wide angle lens and the environment! The bright hotspot is fantastic. I wish someone was standing there because they would take all the attention in the image. There is one man who is walking into it so he seems like the focus to me, along with the guy in the chair on the left looking at him. I don't like the guy on the right side with his face cut off. He is the closest figure and sticks out a lot but with his face missing it feels like he is not supposed to be there. The arched doorway looks great.

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion on the shot! it gives me a sort of second wind when people take the time out to comment on my work

for some reason I have always felt way more secure with architectural shots than ones with human elements, I shy away from taking pictures of people, partly because I'm in love with the past and its monuments and taking pictures of them with no one around give me a feeling of rediscovery. another reason is because I don't feel like I completely fit in with the Arabic culture/society(even though I've lived here all my life).

Syria on the other hand is a different situation, its sort of lost in time and also I have a stronger feeling of belonging there, so when I do briefly visit I try to practice my "people shots" and fight my shy nature.

so in this shot i think your right i needed to wait till the guy(on the right) was in the frame and or waited till someone interesting showed up, but i don't think i'd like someone to be standing in the hot spot - I still feel like the elements like the 800 year old doorway and that hole in the roof where more ..."time resistant" than the billions of people who have walked through here during the last thousand years.

Thanks again
