Description In which very little is actually explained.

Not really a tutorial, I guess it's more like a step by step with photos. The commission I took on a few months ago and the commissioner had me take photos during the process of painting it.

I threw this mock up together a few months ago for a show, and I've had some interest in my process, so here it is.

There's not much to it, once you get to the painting stage. And every painting is done just a little differently, depending on whim, mostly. Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh! Thanks!

Unfortunately this piece was done as a commission, and I no longer have the original. (Didn't own it from the beginning, really) I'm open for commissions though, and there are a few other paintings in my gallery that are still for sale.

This is a very interesting walk-through I love how there's a lot of planning involved, but you're still open to just "winging it" when the situation seems to call for it. The results are always very nice!

I had an art teacher drill that into me at some point in my impressionable youth.

Thank you so much for posting this! A couple questions though, what is masking fluid and what does it do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

merrilee In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-10-09 03:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Masking fluid does the same thing as masking tape, that is, it preserves the white of the paper. Apply it at the beginning of the painting like I've done here, and everything underneath will stay white. Gives you a lot more freedom if you're working with a lot of big, messy washes like I normally use.

AnimalArtKingdom In reply to merrilee [2011-10-09 03:47:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay cool! That's kind of what I figured it did. So where could I find this? Just at any craft store I imagine? And is it called by any special name, or just masking fluid?

merrilee In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-10-10 03:26:45 +0000 UTC]

You might find it at craft stores. An art store would have it for sure. It's also called frisket.

Yeah, there's not much to it when you really boil it down, lol. But I'm glad you enjoy it anyway.
