Taken in 2019 when we visited NASA in Houston. Both the shuttle and the plane are open to tour within. Space Center Houston is definitely worth a visit by the way.

I miss the old shuttle program, as a kid in the 90s-Early 2000s they were the pinnacle of awesome. I was sad when the shuttles were all retired, and in a twist of irony US Astronauts would have to hitch rides on Russian rockets for a time. Beat them to the moon, now you need them to give you a lift.

But another reason the shuttle holds a place in my heart goes back to my very first day at my first Air force base back when I was still active duty, I was on my way to new guy orientation when I looked over at the flightline and there was the 747 with the shuttle atop.

I turned to the sergeant who was showing me around and asked, "Is that really the spaceshuttle?"

"Yes that's really the spaceshuttle."

Wish I had a camera at the time. But I always felt like that was a cool thing to see on the first day on the job so to speak.
