Description

Name: Clyde Allen

Nickname: Allen

Age: 72

Gender: Cis Male (He/Him)

Occupation: Owner and Manager of The Allen Cannery -- the largest of Vertwick’s fish processors. Several fishing boats, including Virgil’s The Mourning Dove sail under it’s banner.

Personality:

Clyde Allen is a remarkably difficult man to get along with -- reclusive in his manner and blunt in his approach. He, based on first impressions, may not seem like much of the family man. Actually, it’s often said in Vertwick’s dark corners that the man resents his own children -- and the unknown mother that bore them. Since his daughter went missing and he banished his only son, Clyde has been seen little and heard from less.

History:

Clyde Allen hails from the Allen line -- the “Black Sheep” of Vertwick’s Old Families. Baddich, Dupree, Dunham, Clearwater, Capone… Well, they all came from money. Those clans brought industry and wealth with them when they founded Vertwick Shore. The Allens… they came from the working stock. They were honest, humble folk -- but many among the Old Families feel they should be excluded somehow… Still, they are as mired in Vertwick’s Old Ways as much as the rest of them.

Or they were.

Clyde Allen is seen a bit of a disgrace to his name -- having seemingly abandoned many of Vertwick’s old traditions in exchange for a simple, honest life. He resents the supposed “church” of The Black Earth and will utterly refuse any conversation on the subject. Still, his industry is so valued in Vertwick that nothing can be done about the man.

Clyde’s children never knew their mother -- and Clyde utterly refuses to speak of the woman. Following Marion’s birth, Clyde grew mean and reclusive, refusing to talk to anyone about the child. He neglected Marion emotionally -- and it showed. He provided adequate physical care. But that was it.

Later, before the birth of his son, Clyde went missing.

He was gone for roughly ten months, and Vertwick suffered as a result.

He eventually returned… quiet… sullen… and with a baby boy.

He left Virgil in the care of his daughter and Eifa Levine most days -- spending most of his time in the pub barely coherent.

His routine remained as such for many years.

His relationship with his children grew more strained as time went on -- and eventually Clyde would be the only witness to whatever caused Marion Allen to go missing.

Virgil Allen was banished to his home north of town shortly after.

Today, he spends most days cold, hard sober -- and cherishing visits with his Grandaughter -- Lif Allen.
