It is the second illustration in the book I'm making.I am soooo behind : ( I don't know if I'll be ready with it in time. I hope so.
I'd like to know what you think about it. The teachers told me I should forget this Barbie doll style... It was really offensive, but maybe they are right... Do you think it is too much? The lights and everything... I never ask anyone opinion about what I should change, but now I'm so confused.
I'm doing 14 illustrations in this book, I'll update all of them : )

yea, sometimes a little rebellion goes a long way. Do whatever makes you happy. In the end, your creations are a part of who you are. ^___^ I love the details on her tail, and her appearance is almost dream-like. Not for a second did I think barbie doll.

I have to partly agree with your teachers, it's true that the way the shadows and lights lay on her face, added to her traits makes her look like a doll. However, I've revised the rest of the illustrations and they're perfectly good and stunning! Remember to listen to comments and suggestions, but do not forget to choose whatever makes you happy and confortable with

so unique, so outstanding for me, such great details in coloring and design! your teachers are there so yo progress as an artist and that's good, but that doesn't take out of this piece not even a little of it's beauty!

Hi ! I checked all your illustrations about the little mermaid, and I don't think it's too barbie or anything
it's really soft and original, since everybody thinks about the little mermaid as red haired, and Barbie dolls have huge breasts (don't like it)
as long at it is your own style, and not soome copy, you shouldn't think about changing it so suddenly
your style will evolve as you age ^^
oh yeah, and I love your mermaid ^^

Can I ask if you paint on colored paper? I'm fascinated by the range of soft hues you get in your paintings. It reminds me of many of my childhood favorite picture books and stationery sets.

I don't paint on coloured paper : ) I paint these normally, then I scan them, and modify the colours a bit, and also add some detail on top of everything.

This sort of ethereal style does not remind me of barbie, your drawing is much more beautiful. I really love the way you colored the tail, specifically the way you hint at iridescence and a sheen to each scale. Also the striations in the back fin are rather realistic looking, very similar to the way a beta fish tail looks. Anyway, stick to what you find beautiful.

Why would they say that!? I love it the way it is! Not a big fan of blond mermaids but this is so sweet and pretty! I love it!
Maybe the style and color of the hair is what they found Barbie-like but I wouldn't change a thing.

this is beautiful and I encourage you to keep working on this style, because it's very you! at this point I can immediately tell when something was drawn by you, especially those mermaids. I think calling your drawing style a 'Barbie doll' one was quite unproffesional of your teacher. I admire your work and this mermaid is one of my favourite ones (: especially her scales cought my interest, they look graceful and I adore their golden gloss (:

Don't stop using your style because someone doesn't like it. As artists we give ourselves enough crap. I think the aesthetic of how she looks is really beautiful. The one critique I would give would be of the wide range of colors you are using in one piece. I think that she herself does not look like a barbie, but the colors used could conjure up some images of the barbie Fairyposa or whatever he name is movies. I think its because you have a full spectrum involved, she seems very rainbowy. The tones in her face and body are really beautifully affected by this greenish yellow light, but with yellow and blue already playing such a huge role, I dont think the magenta at the bottom helps much. If it was a more muted purple I think any relation to Barbie would be gone, but that's just my two cents. Whenever I'm starting on a piece that I want to be stellar, I pick a painting with beautiful colors and use them for reference so I don't end up in too much rainbow.

I also agree. I think she is absolutely beautiful and I love her colors. I thought too that the magenta was a little off. It is the only thing I would change. As I scrolled down, I noticed that it made the picture look a little flat compared to the upper portion.
Her scales are beautiful and I love the innocence she portrays and I do not agree with your teachers at all!!! Keep up the great work!

Mi a bajuk a tanároknak a stílussal? Milyen változtatásokat javasolnak? Szerintem nagyon szép és érdekes. Különösen a pikkelyek tetszenek és a fény hatása az egész képen. Az arca nagyon bájos, és jó a fények elhelyezése rajta, olyan 3ds. Tetszik még, ahogy a haja lefelé szinte beleolvad a vízbe. Csak deréktájon furcsa nekem egy kicsit, de túl tudom tenni magam rajta, betudható a stílusnak. Hosszú és túl vékony, de ez csak minimálisan zavaró számomra. Sokaknak lehet hogy egyáltalán nem is az. Ill. a kezét még picit jobban ki lehetne dolgozni. Ha már így véleményre voltál kíváncsi.

Nos ők ezt cukrosnak nevezik, pontosabban nem ezt, hanem az előző kishableányos rajzomat, amit felraktam, arra mondták hogy barbie baba... Ők azt javasolják hogy ne akarjak mindent egyenértékűen kihangsúlyozni és kidolgozni, nem kell mindent túlgondolnom. Plusz hátterekben sem vagyok valami jó 
Igen a test tényleg tul nyúlánk, pedig ez már egy javított alak, ugyanis ennél hosszabb volt szegény : D Nos ez így sikerült, a többi illusztráció remélem mégjobb lesz. Köszönöm : )
