Spock cosplay - Meeee
I'm not sure if the Kirk cosplayer has a deviantart account. If I find one, I shall credit him.
So this picture is from Nekocon 16. It was a lot of fun! I mostly cosplayed DC characters, but I also trolled around in my Arwen costume (with my friend as a kick-ass Aragorn) and cosplayed Spock for a few hours too.
About the costume: I made this in an afternoon. I drafted a pattern for the dress which took about an hour (I was dragging my feet) then cut & sewed the dress in a few more. The material is suede, which works pretty well for this costume (it's pretty thick and lays well), and the color is nearly spot on, imo. A lot of the uniforms I see are a little too green for my taste, and I like how this blue has a little bit of a grey tone as well.
I didn't originally plan for this to be a costume of Spock specifically. Originally I just wanted to be a generic crewmember and played around with the idea of doing a longer-haired Vulcan/Romulan or possibly a Trill. But in the end I decided to go with a shorter haired Vulcan, because I already had a decent wig (which wasn't behaving at this con at all due to me squishing it in a small flat bag instead of putting on a wig head... smh, won't make that mistake again). People at AZ and Neko wouldn't stop calling me Spock though (and I will admit, the costume is what a lady version of Spock's was, although if I was trying for an accurate female Spock I would go for a shorter wig), so in the end I kinda gave up and just decided why not be Spock. I'll probably get flack for that, but I suppose people aren't that interested in a generic Vulcan first officer rather than a Spock. *shrug* It makes no difference to me, I get to act like an emotionally repressed jerkface either way. So basically I get to act like myself normally.
Also about the pin - I didn't use the ToS insignia. This has been pointed out to me a thousand times... and yes, I'm aware. I've been watching Star Trek since I could walk thanks to the fact that my parents have been trekkies for decades, lol. I never liked the insignias on the original uniforms, though... I always thought they were bulky, rather ugly patches and would be better taken off. When I saw the pins on the Nu Trek uniforms, I thought they were much more futuristic and fashionable. Not as fond of the new uniforms, though (they're still pretty cool, I'm just biased toward the old ones). So I used a Nu Trek pin on an old-school uniform... purists will be angry, but this is the look I wanted, and since I had to wear the costume, I decided to go with what I thought looked best and would be the happiest in.
Thanks for looking and hope no one is too mad about inaccuracies~
