Koriand'r is the princess of the planet Tamaran. When her planet was overtaken by the Citadel, Kori was experimented on and tortured. She eventually escaped and fled to Earth where she was rescued by the yet-to-be formed Teen Titans. As time went on, Kori adopted earth as her home and establish the Teen Titans.
