McFunkypants — Deedee and Chokko

Description Work in progress for a fantasy RPG game I am programming, tentatively called Swords of Magic. I would LOVE any feedback you may have. Thanks!

Deedee the warrior girl and Chokko, her baby dragon.

Deedee is still unsure of her powers, and fear gives her tummy aches before a fight. She wants to be strong, but her voice wavers when she speaks. Chokko loves Deedee and would fight to the death to protect her. Especially after she feeds him his favourite food: chocolate.

Together they are a powerful force - still young and a bit wobbly, but tough, fast, and agile. Chokko is Deedee's magical "familiar". Like a black cat, a familiar helps to amplify magical power. At this point in the adventure Deedee has no idea what her power actually is, and it is this self doubt and uncertainty that give her character some depth and fragility.

I'm not satisfied with the image for a few reasons. Firstly her outstretched hand is totally deformed; the posing morphs don't hold up to extreme poses like this one - the glove got squashed. One of her shoulder pauldrons actually goes inside her arm, and the same holds true for some of her hair, which passes through some parts of the armour. Additionally the lighting for the dragon isn't exactly the same as for Deedee.

This was rendered in two passes and composited in photoshop with a "Bokeh" background image of blurry lights which was created by ~RegularJane. Thank you, Jane!

DAZ studio or Poser? Or something else? I use DAZ2.3 (still). All you can really do about the oddity with the posing messing with the costume is tweak the pose in bits usually. The pauldrons might have some dials to shift them a bit too. And yeah, I've played with that hair model, it's cute, but it likes to mess with the costume, they all kinda do.

Anyways it's a good picture. And I like the game concept/character concept.

Thanks for the kind words. This was rendered in Poser Pro 2010. I agree, that armour is tough to pose without poke-through and it doesn't seems to pick up many of my bodymorphs. I changed the character's hair and armour (mixed two sets of armour together) and made a new version with the dragon as a baby: [link]

is his name pronounced choke-o? or chalk-o? im presuming its chalk-o becuase CHOColate. ya... good picture by the way! it gets the whole message across.

LOL you are quite correct. I'd intended it to be pronounced Chalk-o. But I hate names that can be confused. Perhaps I should consider a different name. Maybe Coco?

no. coco is too expected. maybe try chocky? chocko is a better spelling for your pronunciation. chock is a good root to start with if u still like the "chalk"

If yes, than that are some awesome shaders, espacily the skin is one of the best I've yet seen.

Her face looks softer, that's for sure.
I'm liking the detail of her armour... the coloration in her hair is wonderful

Thank you! I'm shining a bright white spotlight straight down on her hair to add extra shine. In addition there are several other lights in the scene: an IBL (image based light) for ambience, a blueish white specular light straight ahead to make the armour shiny, and a soft blurry cream coloured spotlight pointed at her face.

I like it a lot she looks more feminine, but still very strong
