According to the Manga, Link didn't tell him because that would've freaked Mido out, he just kept it a secret. And also according to the manga, older Link reminded Mido of someone who left, and then he had a fit about Link never coming back even though he asked him to.
I guess Link never told him in the games because Link can't talk.
