Description I was in two minds about posting this one but then my photographer other 'alf persuaded me to upload it anyway. I must admit I prefer the first one [link] - it somehow has the right mood for me, because the boat is not what is the main focus - it's the voyage. This one may look a wee bit neater to some, but to me it feels just like any other product promo shot. But I tend to be odd like that, anyway
Done at my friend's kids request after they watched [link]

I'm not at home working with boats, cars and such - if it doesn't have fur or skin it makes me nervous, so all the flaws and foibles here can be put down partly to venturing for the first time into a completely new area for me.
Just as in the first, though played with by me in any way imaginable, the boat model is lovely Medusa by Faveral, available for purchase online.

Bare-bones DS3A, no swish external renderers or plugins, touch-up in Photoshop, on an old boy of a PC.
Now when I look at it, I can see tonnes of stuff that should have been done better.
I guess there's always the next time.

Cool! ( I like your animated icon too, cat with flashy glasses). When I look at this scene, I begin to wonder what is beneath the ship. What does the underwater scene look like?

Thank you - and yes, you are right about the sail - I haven't noticed it until I almost finished the postwork (funnily enough, it involved moving the sun and the portion of the sky to under the sail from its original position about an inch to the left of it )

But of course. It's all I have.

I thought a lot over the great power of human mind during my stay in Da City... Jonathan Livingston Seagull gave me so much food for thought - it shocked me, in a good way and turned me inside out... I went to the bookshop in search for the books you had advised me, right. Got both The Art of War and Seagull. They didn't have Angela's Ashes though...

I told ya it would.
Art of War is a kind of a book one needs to re-read every so often (another one of my dear ones is Five Rings by Musashi - you could give that one ago, if you get along with Sun-Tzu)
If you can get access to a library, they are likely to have Angela's Ashes - can you order library books by post over there?

I'll do it little by little after I'm settled.
You're telling me to take him up as an example. But didn't he have to kill to occupy a higher spot, for instance? As if everything he achieved was achieved by right ways? He sought for power - something I don't need at all. Not quite the right person to look at...

Well, you must take him in his historical context. He lived in a brutal, ghastly time, and his contemporaries were as ruthless as he was. I love late Medieval history, but in all honesty - there's no-one in that period, regardless what country, that I'd particularly like to share my dinner-table with. They were all mean, ruthless, and ferocious people, because the times were such.

However - in its essence the principle is remains

Alright, you be the main course and me dessert

Hm. Excellent? I wouldn't ever say you're flattering me - that's just not your nature. I'd rather put it as a honest subjective opinion of yours yet a wrong objective opinion in general... My language might seem good to you because - you're not a native speaker too, although I'd hardly tell you from one, you're way better than me. In short, I've been feeling quite unsure about my English, upon a certain comment of a native speaker that contained nothing negative - just a sincere review where my weak sides were described. But that of course is only a stimulus to improve and by no way an excuse to stop.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxTheMogg In reply to Roger-The-Elfin-Soul [2012-07-06 16:42:53 +0000 UTC]

See, I've been living in UK since the nineties - and let me tell you, Super-Elf (and I'm not kidding you now) - a worryingly large number of native speakers I've encountered, both in my work and personal life, couldn't spell, had less clue about the grammar than an average Dutch fifth-grader, and had the vocab just big enough to let them watch the reality TV.
Of course, there are the folks who have a superb command of English, but trust me - if you look at the papers the average Joe reads here, you'll know those language-savvy people are not in majority.
I think you're doing great.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Roger-The-Elfin-Soul In reply to MaxTheMogg [2012-07-06 16:57:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm aware of that. But I've been told my language is awkward in places and honestly, I do feel it myself.
There's a great difference - being good at informal speech doesn't mean being equally good at literary language, that's much harder... And when I try to write it still does sound like everyday speak. Dull and unsophisticated.

You know, I've bought other good books by the way... One is on learning languages using some techniques of NLP. The other is a bilingual book, called Two Lands, Two Languages, Two Lives by Lora Gridneva, describing a UK immigrant woman born and raised in USSR. These are going to help me.

I firmly believe that everyone accomplishes more and gets better faster by being told form time to time how good they are and how far they've come.
It makes the never-ending process of improvement go that much smoother.

Completely off-topic: [link] Don't know if that's exactly your thing, but still

Oh, and even more off-topic. Yer advice on such a topic is needed - if you will. To make a long story short, I now haz a cat. And I wonder how to treat it so it grows to be a disciplined yet unintimidated animal? I've been told you can't shout at a cat, let alone beat it...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxTheMogg In reply to Roger-The-Elfin-Soul [2012-07-07 10:58:44 +0000 UTC]

You got yerself... a kitty?

Cats need a lot of patience ( and that 'clear and calm, firm and loving' thingy ). Each animal has its own, very distinct personality - every cat I've ever had was as wildly different as the humans I've met. Cats are not fond of discipline at the best of times and they take the notion of being 'owned' very lightly (if at all ), so prepare yourself to share your life with an animal that believes you are equal, and that humans are just a weird type of cat that walk on two legs, has no tail, and know how to open a tin of Chicken Chunks in jelly.
So, if you think you can impose some rigid rules, you-boss and they obey - you are in for a major disappointment .

Be loving, kind, give a lot of cuddles and attention (without smothering the animal), be firm but not too harsh when it does something silly (and do it immediately when they do something silly). Have it inoculated and spayed/neutered as soon as pos, and play with it as much as you can. Set out out some clear boundaries form the start and stick to them - if you don't want the kitty to sleep on your bed for example, then make it clear every time (and close the bedroom door when you're not around). Cats are very sensitive, any harsh treatment is bound to be logged in that furry head for a very, very long time. Cats are very independent, but that doesn't mean they do not form strong emotional bonds - they can sense if you're upset or down and will discreetly cuddle up to you to make you feel better.

Never - ever - raise your hand on an animal. Ever. They do what they are perfectly designed to do - if they bring you a dead mouse as a prezzie, though we might gag at the thought, to a cat it is a great compliment to you - they are trying to teach you to hunt, to feed you - and tell you 'I like you, you Weird Big Cat.'
Play with it - kittens have seemingly unlimited amounts of energy, and you just have to find a time to have some fun with them.
Shouting is no-no, too. I was very fortunate that all my cats adored the pants of me, so when I say something, that's how things usually go.
There's tonnes more, but take one step at the time.
The most important thing is, however, to love your pet.
If you genuinely don't feel the deep affection for the cat, it is pointless to keep it, it will sense it and behave accordingly. Cats can spot a fake from a mile away.
And, of course - there's always the Wonderz of Internetz when one can find a lot about how to look after one's kitty.
But love and patience is the key.
Love and patience.

No, it's my Friggins folks who got themselves a kitty to keep the irksome birds away from the garden. Here it is - not shy - just hunting [link]

While the animal will surely stay in Friggins, I'll move from there for good in about a month - and during that time I'll have to deal with it. And not just deal - moreover, I'd like to establish good relationships between me and the furry ball, and maybe even teach it some mannerz

Thank ye for yer advice, good sir. It's excellent as always.
