I had this idea back in 2021 to make eevee and all it's evolutions as regional variant forms that would evolve in their own ways.
-to get Jolteon, Eevee would need to hold a metal coat and then given it's thunder stone to evolve.
-to get Sylveon, Eevee would need to be raised up to maximum friendship, leveled up in battle and then fainted during that same battle to evolve it.
-to get Leafeon, Eevee would need to be given a leaf stone while poisoned.
-to get Flareon, Eevee would need to hold a hard stone and then be given a fire stone.
-to get Vaporeon, Eevee would need to hold a fire stone and be given a water stone to evolve.
-to get Espeon, Eevee would need to learn at least one dragon-type move and then level up during the day
-to get Umbreon, Eevee would need to hold a focus sash and then level up during the night
-to get Glaceon, Eevee would need to level up while knowing a new move called "Thaw out," which is an ice-type move that would flash-freeze the target and then quickly blast them with hot air to thaw them out. This move will paralyze the target.

The Jolteon is inspired by robots, hence why it's a steel-type yet it keeps it's electric-type feeling. I wanted every variant to have an explanation behind why they look they way they do. The dragon-type eeveelution was originally going to evolve by learning the move waterfall and using it outside of battle at least once. I wanted that to tie into the old legend of carps traveling up streams to turn into dragons, but not only would that not make sense for a little bumblebee to do that, but Magikarp is already based on that, so that wouldn't really be good to reuse that idea. Leafeon was the first one of these guys I came up with after having the idea for a variation that would be more like poison dart frogs, taking in the poisonous abilities of other pokemon to use in it's own body. I based it's design on nightshade with how that flower is extremely poisonous. Sylveon's design is based on children's toys left to rot, replicating the idea that it had been well-loved only to be hurt and seemingly forgotten. The shape of it's skull is based on that of a broken heart, and the parts that make up it's body are parts of a stuffed bear that has been torn apart. Flareon's design is based a bit on coalossal's design, but is a bit different in that the heat from it's body had drawn in rocks to create an armor, with the hard stone it had held during evolution acting as the magnet to help with this, so it isn't coal making up it's body, and it isn't exactly a furnace, like coalossal is. Vaporeon takes a literal meaning to it's name; Vaper. It's method of evolution is based on heating water enough to turn it into a gas, hence why it becomes a flying type now. Espeon's design is based on that of both a chinese dragon and a sphynx cat, drawing a lot of inspiration from it's psychic-type origins as to not stray too heavily away from the fact that it used to be a completely different type.
Glaceon was one of the tougher designs to come up with. I wanted it to look like an african wild dog, with a mixture of prehistoric animals as well to give off the look as if it has gone through an ice age. The evolution tactic illudes to this as well, having an ice-type move from it's ancestry that is has since evolved away from being and turning into the exact opposite, even if it does still have a cold heart.
Finally, Eevee itself has vastly changed in both appearance and typing. This Eevee has evolved an exoskeleton to keep other pokemon from attacking it while it feeds from wildflowers. The pollen from it's favorite flowers sticks to it's fur and it gives it a yellowish coloration. Very rarely, a reaction with the nectar-like chemical it creates cause the pollen to change to a sweet pink color. These pink eevees are caught and often raised by couples. These pokemon love to play with others, and they show how they feel with the different dances they do. They are the most happy when they frolic.
