Description More lights, hope you like it

EDIT: I want to make this clear. I have not manipulated this image in any way, shape or form well... except for the normal curves, whitebalance and sharpness.

I'm curious- did you move the phone at all? Or just the flashlight? That's really cool, is it okay if I try doing something similar? I'll credit the idea to you if it's okay.

Nope, not at all

Sure go ahead! You can credit me if you want to!

This is just way too cool for words. It looks, as someone else said, like an ad, it's just so perfect.

Nice work. The lights look amazing, at first I taught it was manipulated. Like the way you kept it clean. Kick ass shot.

Thanks

Yeah, that's been a problem with this shot, everyone thinks it's done in PS before I tell them that I haven't touched it at all except for WB and colour ajustments.

Ah well, thats what you get

wow, now this is awesome, its no that far off from commercial photography, if I saw a picture like this on a cell phone add it would work perfectly (it would have to be retaken so you could see the name of the phone)

Amasing shot! The idea is very clever, and it came out wonderfully. Got my vote in Photography Key!

Thanks alot!

Probably the shot that's taken most time to prepare, this. Amazingly it only took like 5 frames to get.

explain to me how you did this exactly. i've had no good luck with light painting.

I wanted to do a more surreal one so I wanted the background to be black. I've previously read about what kind of backgrounds photographers use, and the best thing I had lying around was this black non-glossy desktop cover-thingy. To avoid reflections I put a blanket between my bed and wall to create a sort-of hill thing where I put the desktop cover. I place the phone riiiight on the bottom edge of the cover and framed the shot so that no bed or wall was visible. I set the camera to M mode, shutterspeed to 30s and checked how the exposure was, then I changed the aperture untill I was satisfied(I just held the light in the shot during this). When satisfied that the exposure will turn out ok I put my light by the screen of the phone and opend up the shutter. I had the light on dragged it from the phone upwards then turned it off, and repeated this for 30 seconds . I guess ideally you would want to have a shorter shutter time and one light streak per shot to make a better looking one later in PS by combining shots, but I didn't want the hassle so I did them all in one shot.

Some camera's also allow double (or multiple) exposures, which I think would work well too, probably more so than photoshopping it.

Film cameras do atleast but afaik no canon dSLR alows multiple exposure in the camera. And you have more control over it in PS.

In camera has the advantage of the light overwriting the dark. Combining in photoshop would make each light darker.

Well, no, it can be done in photoshop, but it wouldn't be simply stacking layers... probably into the photomanip section.

MaxiKana In reply to gemstones [2006-03-14 16:47:38 +0000 UTC]

That is true, it is a bit more complicated than that, but it is possible. My other shot with light streaks is done by sort-of layer stacking three images.

Interesting effect - glad you clarified it's not a manipulation, because I have no idea how you did this!

How long was the exposure?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxiKana In reply to Isquiesque [2006-02-05 19:39:03 +0000 UTC]

I felt like doing it really simply, so I set it to thirty seconds .

This is beautiful. I had to look at it twice realising then that it was a real photography and not a abstract 3D composition. The way also you famed the pic worked very well. Very well done. Only two tries? pft...I am jaleous now

This was something that just came to me, one of those rare moments when you think something might become cool and it does. I can't even remember how many "shoots" I've had to delete heh.
