Description Ok, I had like lots of trouble with my fan. I Was making the fan of Fiora Cavazza. I took one of those [link] fans. Here are just the painting steps. Here is a short explaination how I did it.

1. Buy a fan with the base of wood and at the end small pieces of viber.

2. Cut off tips of the viber, but do not cut it all the way to the wood, since it's the viber that holds the fan together!

3. Get rid of all the original paintings since you will always see the bumps and flowers underneath the black paint. So no matter how you do it, just be sure all the original paint is gone. I did it with sandpaper, but it's not the best choise, because my fan broke two times. And then you will have to glue it again, which will take time again.

4. Clean the fan! There can't be any dust on the fan when you will spray the paint on it.

5. Be sure to cover the tips of the fan by tape or anything that will keep it safe for the black. Because black is a drama to get out of viber again. And be sure the fan is spread out! out, because if parts aren't they will stick together and split apart later.

6. Paint or in my case, spray the fan black or any color you want.

7. When this is drying, make the templar sign template.

8. When it's dry, first(!) paint the other side black aswell!

9. When both sides are dry, stick the template to the fan, be sure it's well stuck, because a fan isn't straight, I would recommend different places to get it stuck.

10. Spray or paint the sign. I redid the tips later with a small brush to get the points more...pointier. Be sure the rest of the fan is covered while doing this.

11. Same trick, other side.

12. When it's all dry, be sure to replace the tape to the inside of the fan and spray the tips silver.

13. When it's all dry you could paint purple drawings on the inside, or do this by a template and spray them. I didn't do this, since I needed it to be done quick and didn't had time yet to do the purple.

14. Here's your fan. Keep it in for a while snapped in. It will get 'used' to being in that form. Soon you'll be able to snap it in and out easily.

Tataaaah! Now you can kill people with your viberfan!

Your welcome, I recommend reading the comment, it describles the whole process, and not only the painting part.

I did. I was surprised that it's closable, since I thought the paint would make it stick open permanently.

No it actually gets sticky, but spray paint is really thin and you can cut the panels apart when dry with something unsharp by gently push it between the two panels and slide it from the top till the bottom. Try not to break them Good luck.

If the paint made the fan ribs stick together and you pry them apart, would there not be a little ridge and an uncoloured stripe on each rib?
How do you deal with that or did it not happen to you? Just curious.

Yes it happens, but thats the beauty of fans lol. If you slide them in the unpainted parts wont be seen. But if you slide them out, it stays in place because of the wires (or fabric on top). So the unpainted parts wont be seen anyway. So only if you stick your nose IN you see the unpainted parts.

Yeah, that's true. Heh... I WOULD stick my nose in the fan, just to see how it worked. *smirk* Maybe I'll try it sometime if I ever get my hands on a good quality fan again.
