The Metroid stage most know as a Metroid-but hold on? That says Larva right?

Yes. Yes it does. That's right, what most consider a full grown Metroid are in-fact...not even close. They get much much bigger and way meaner.

That said just even this stage is extremely dangerous to deal with. They latch onto their prey and don't-let-go. Not even Samus Aran can escape this nasty creature without having to roll up into a morph ball and bomb them loose!

Wiping out anything in their way and sucking out their energy. They were creations of the Chozo to be immune to and also destroy an even greater threat- The X- an insidious organism that can devour and copy anything organic (Basically if you are familiar with the concept of an alien creature that can absorb and assimilate anything you know how dangerous these things are!). They grew out of control on their home planet of SR388 and turned on their creators but at least kept the x at bay as intended.

They can also terraform their environment to suit their needs creating the ideal habitat for them with enzymes of their own making.

Their thick membrane absorbs practically any attack except explosive force (often times only after being frozen solid so they shatter) and their only one true weakness is cold temps.
Making them very...very dangerous at just this stage.

They are even able to change into completely different forms on completely different planets and conditions skipping SR388's stages all together.

(like the Metroid Prime from absorbing phazon for the ultimate example)
