The only thing I don't like about it is the thickness of the white border at the bottom.... the image itself is amazing and I love the fact that there is so much symbolism in your work (not just this piece). Definately a fav!

Martyred In reply to mage20022003 [2006-04-05 04:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, thanks for the compliment. On the white border: for this image all i did was place the darkroom print into a scanner, and since that is how it was on the paper, that is how it ended up.. Framed, it is not like that.
thanks again

so are these set up in a gallery front or some sort of store front?

Martyred In reply to jordana4 [2006-03-03 01:20:00 +0000 UTC]

no, no store front yet, after i finish this project i am working on i plan to go around to places and see if they will hang it and such. Hopefully they will go up, the mean a lot to me

I am afraid i don't understand your question, could you say it in another way?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

MadHatterVVVI [2006-03-01 18:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Ill take a crack at the cord...

It can mean several things to me actually:

1) a symbol of electric dependency. Here is a man in the utter most state of primal simplicity, almost submissive before the line of electric power. Almost a slave to the power that guides so many of us,

2) It could also mean to me, the representation of passage and communication. Information is passed from point a to point b in a thin plastic tube filled with copper wire. Right before the primitive man is the generation x version of mass communication.

Anywho, pretty nice picture mr brandycakes.

it's neat. it's obviously meaningful but also quickly digested (sybols of the trapped guy, the business dress, etc.). and there's just something cool about having a skinny naked guy with a shiny back. i think it remindsme of the matrix or something, but there is this humble human quality about it that is really cool. nicely done, my friend.

now we just need to start finding bay area jobs.

chinks [2006-03-01 04:21:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm gonna jump in with what I think this photo represents.

The shirt with no man in it but still pointing represents the faceless boss at work or a symbol of a corporation. The person, naked apart from the box on thier head represents the people and free thinking being trapped. Also as the shirt is higher than the person and they look in distress it's faceless boss/corperations surpressing the free thought of the people.

So going with the title it's the lesson that in modern life the faceless corperations are stifleing the people's thinking and trapping us.

Thats what it means to me anyway, could be completley off the mark though. Nicely done and good texture to the piece.

Seems like your hittin in the realm of what i was going for, thanks for sharing BTW. But what, does the cord at the bottom mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chinks In reply to Martyred [2006-03-01 22:46:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm still thinkin about that one, I'll let you know when it hits me.

hmmmm

Ryouichi [2006-03-01 00:23:02 +0000 UTC]

That is indeed a very interesting picture. I would usually find extras like that cord kind of distracting from the whole feeling of the image, but for this image it seems to fit in with the photo.

Martyred In reply to Ryouichi [2006-03-01 16:08:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah, and if you analyse the shit out of it, it isn't even extra, definetly put there on purpose haha. I am glad you find it interesting
