Description This entree is fromΒ Gakriele-lvs .

This is also a change of the ghost base design. However, the design takes away many ghostly qualities. The neon mouth, as depicted above, wasn't a mentioned ability in their description of the redesign, but I felt like it's something this creature could do. The colors on the outside and the inside are the same, but the ones on the inside are much brighter and stronger than the ones on the outside. This is great for signifying an incoming attack, as it's all covered when in a default state. This is great for a basic enemy design.Β 

However, there is one problem that prevents this design from rising above 5th place. Smoothly shifting from one color to the other in a design is difficult to draw in animation. Each frame is drawn by hand; I cannot rotate the color shift very easily. That is an issue because the design has to rotate to show the attack, like shown above. I do really like this design, but the other four entrees are just much easier to animate as they are despite having more detail.

well that power was annoying, i was only wondering since that power was also a scream(the scream + the redead kinda scared me when i was younger), i'm quite curious about this game so i'm kinda wondering about what you posted in DA.

Well, if I can say anything, there aren't ten dungeons because I wanted specifically ten. There are ten because I have ten good ideas for dungeons. Some of them aren't even about just running in reaching the end. One doesn't even have any locked doors. I barely have any of the classic Zelda items. I'm trying my best to make the Zelda formula better.

well there's indeed a lot of ways to make a game that has a zelda style but at the same time has it's own "uniqueness".

and yes indeed there's a lot of aspects that could be improved over the classic zelda games, for example many items in zelda games are solely made to be used in a specific dungeon and has little to no use after that, i think that giving every item a nice usefulness after the dungeon is very nice, giving alternate options for fighting is also a good one,.

I wanted to rule out all the items that were either not fun to use or could simply be done with another, better item. I basically combined the hookshot, the grappling hook, and the boomerang into a small, green dagger that gets magically concealed inside Marii's primary sword. The only item I basically copied was the Magnetic Token (Magnetic Glove from Oracle games), but I have uses for it that are beyond what was originally included.

i think that's a good idea, making a single item with multi purposes rather than creating 3 different items, this is less of a problem with weapons if they happen to be more of a playstyle difference rather than one being superior to the other(a two handed sword is not an upgrade over the one handed sword since you have to trade the use of a shield for extra reach and damage).


are you going to add optional sidequests?

there could have a cooking inspired one, maybe someone is really having a hard time cooking and you have to help in a weird way, the reward could be either a bottle or the ability to get a free healing soup(maybe you can carry only one at a time but you can refill for free?)

well bottles were really useful items in the previous games, having old bottles as currency could be a "callback" to their usefulness, didn't know that she could cook though, albeit that doesn't stop from having to cook in an odd way in a sidequest(maybe it's a special dish?).

well they're side quests, they're very useful for creating fun stuff, like a good minigame.

the magnet gloves could work pretty well on that cooking stuff.

Something ive done to all my games from programming class is have a playable arcade machine in the game. One time it was Pong, another time it was like Galaga. I think I should do it for Marii, too. They werent very complicated, but my classmates hated and loved me at the same time.

that can be used in sidequests with great effect, if a player happens to not like the minigame he/she can simply not play it, it's a sidequest after all, do you think that a balloon fight would be difficult? you could re-skin it and name it "cuckoo fight".

It wouldn't be difficult at all. Its just low-gravity jumping with no need to be standing on anything. It would actually be easier than making a platformer.

i think that it would probably require some cuckoo sprites, and some Marii ones, the cuckoos would probably just detach rather than explode so it's one less sprite.

well i don't really know the themes of your games so i'm kinda giving blind suggestions, if the suggestions don't fit in the game then there's no reason to use them, some suggestions can be useful i think, or at least after changing a thing or two.

let's see, collectables that are placed on non-sense locations and requires a guide to be found, minigames that are entirely luck based, cool weapons/items like the razor sword that are not going to be used(in my opinion the razor sword is way cooler than gilded sword), cool weapons that link cannot keep in his inventory(the monsters had some interesting weapons in WW), things that are easily permanently lost, there are other things that i don't remember right now.


by the way does Marii have more misc information? those can be useful for the story and/or sidequests, things that she likes to do or some part time job/hobby can be used in gameplay.

well the sidequests(and quests) are given by the npcs rather than the playable character(or at least usually), but her own traits could also be taken into consideration, unless you're planning on making her a silent protagonist.

There's a character named Jars that follows Marii around and solves puzzles like in Four Swords, but you can command her to attack enemies by herself. She also isn't connected to the health bar. She can be stunned but she can also use the effects of certain foods and potions. She has an odd-looking spear that I saw in a museum.

so if she takes damage she will become temporarily disabled? the weapon reminds me a little bit of a monk's spade, i think that she can be an interesting feature, if well implemented, speaking of health does Marii gets more health by getting exp from enemies of by collecting heart container/piece?

Yes and no. The place she's adventuring in doesn't have a maintained coinage, so they use a bunch of old bottles like Coca Cola, sauces, and inkwells. Therefore, getting a bottled anything simply requires $1.

so she won't need to hunt for bottles, hm, i think that can make things easier but i kinda enjoyed bottle hunting, but that's just a minor detail i think(not to mention that other players might not have enjoyed bottle hunting), i also always found the scooping mechanic to be quite nice.

I can still make her scoop. I haven't programmed it yet. I just got out of class and had an idea: Jars will occasionally ask to be the one that cooks the food, but at first she's terrible at it. If you keep allowing her to try, she slowly gets better until she has the ability to improve anything Marii makes.

being able to scoop some stuff is really nice, also that idea looks good, it gives another progression to the game, Marri's face upon eating a nightmare inducing food can be really funny too, her face when eating good food could be cute!

well if i managed to spark an idea or two or helped taking a decision that useful enough i think.


i think that having an anthro bird as playable character could work as an attractive for the game, they seems to be well liked by many people but not very used in games(at least not as playable) so it kinda "stands out".
