“When we first meet Jaal, he’s a member of the Angaran resistance and he is kind of a Lieutenant to Efra as a member of the Angaran resistance. The Angaran resistance are the on-the-ground, face-to-face fighters that fight the Kett at every turn. They haven’t had very much success in the 80 years since the Kett arrived, but now with the emergence of their new leader Efra, they’re taking on the Kett in new and bold ways.
The Angara were a very advanced race. We see them now at a place where they are still advanced, but perhaps not as advanced as the Kett—our other alien species in the Heleus cluster.
Jaal comes with you because the Angara don’t trust you. And that’s fair, because the last species that the Angara met were the Kett. And the Kett have done nothing but enslaved their people.”
