Description
This drawing is more or less a sketch, to see how I want to draw my own take on the Norse god Thor. The clothes are just a placeholder, because I'm not sure yet what suits him best, as he is both of divine royalty and very working-class in sensibilities. I'm trying to not draw his outfit too close to other versions, even though the green tunic he wears in the comic Valhalla is an iconic part of my childhood. He is wearing a red tunic in some paintings, while others make him look more like a stereotypical fantasy-barbarian. That look still fits him, as he is an archetypical brawler.
I imagine Thor looking very strong and brawny in a way associated with heavy labour and old-fashioned wrestling, so I don't think he should look like a modern body-builder, but rather have a dad-bod that also reflects his eating habits. The design of his head is the main thing I'm thinking about, because hair and beard style can inform a lot about the character. Out of the various depictions I've seen before I prefer him looking close to middle-age, with a full beard and a prominent moustache. When it comes to his hair, I feel that an unkempt, shoulder-length and vaguely mullet-y hairstyle fits his personality, because it looks like a previously neat hairstyle (probably forced on him by his wife Sif) going wild when he's busy for months fighting giants and hunting trolls.
I think I've made MjΓΆlnir a bit small, even though it is described to have been forged with a too short handle (due to interference by Loki). The head of the hammer looks fine, because I want to make it look like the pendants. But I might give it a slightly longer handle, plus a leather strap on the handle, because that is something I kinda like about the MCU version.
