Hi!

I agree that statement 'just draw everyday' is just too little.

First tackle your weaknesses for starters. There's nothing to gain by drawing the same thing that you already know how to draw.
So saying that... then you should probably gain as much knowledge as you can on topic you want to learn. Pick one at a time. There's a lot out there to learn and we can't multitask. It's really a myth. So make a list of subjects and go slowly one by one.
Let's say you pick anatomy. It's a big topic on itself. It contains actually a lot of smaller 'topics' inside. Like : head drawing, feet, hands, torso, posing, muscles, bones. You need to put a system in place, from most basic and general knowledge to most advanced. So my way would look like that: 1. proportions -> 2. gesture drawing -> 3. simplify body to geometric figure -> 4.drawing figures in space -> 5. posing figures as I would pose body, etc. .... until I would reach actually learn muscles or bones. It's very advanced knowledge that will make you a masterful draftsman but not necessarily will help you with basic problem of how to draw.

It's a process and I would suggest to see learning anything as a process. Start with making complicated topic as simple as possible. As long as you understand topic 100% you know you are prepared to learn more complicated stuff.

That's so common to see people jumping on the hardest things straight away and then giving up because drawing 'is so hard to learn'. It's as hard or as easy as we decide actually

Hope that will help a little!

Thanks. I'm one of those people who tend to take their art a little too seriously. I'm trying to jut have fun with what I'm drawing.

Yes totally! If you don't have fun in the beginning it's hard to keep up the habit of drawing. So pick topics you enjoy

Zawsze możesz z kimś współpacować, np. RenRou robi genialne komiksy ,a fabułę pisze z kimś innym.

I have to ask - What Pencil do you use? And how many sketchbooks do you go through?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mannequin-atelier In reply to meoartist [2014-01-31 16:02:29 +0000 UTC]

Hey I use pencils from HB to 8B (8B only for the strongest black). But mostly my favourite are between HB and 4B. *looks at the corner and counts sketchbooks* Right now I have 4 sketchbooks that I fill simultaneously, which 3 of them are A4 and one is A5. And few that are still blank.

meoartist In reply to mannequin-atelier [2014-01-31 16:13:08 +0000 UTC]

I believe my favorite to be 3b though I almost always sketch in mechanical. I will have to pull them out more often. Charcoal really is my black of prefrence.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mannequin-atelier In reply to meoartist [2014-01-31 16:28:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I think 3B gives perfect results also Mechanical pencil are great, but they don't work for me, maybe because of life studies that I'm used to do. Congrats on charcoal, it is very hard to have control over it - every stroke counts, and it's hard not to smudge by accident

meoartist In reply to mannequin-atelier [2014-01-31 18:12:44 +0000 UTC]

if I'm working with it I'm working BIG. Last real charcoal piece I did was 29x41. Massive space drawing of a cave. And I start with Vine, smudge it and you can hardly tell because its ash with no gum.
