The dress-like thing was described by Mrs. May in 1952, and some propose it was some form of vehicle , rather than just a mundane skirt. Mrs. May described it as being metallic looking, with a sulfur smelling gas emerging from underneath the creature, implying that some form of engine was underneath. It probably isn't meant to be some pretty space lady in a dress, or a "cross dressing cryptid". I think it is a lady, but not the kind most people would think of, and that is where I get to my next point...
The Flatwoods Monster is probably nothing more than a misinterpretation of something completely ordinary. Later eyewitness accounts are inconsistent, and do not match up with the first sighting, which makes it seem like people are just trying to cash in on the craze. There is also no physical evidence found so far. Crime investigators can find a needle in a field of haystacks, so you would think a spaceship landing would have left some kind of a trace behind after the police investigated the area. The first account seems to describe an almost ordinary creature. A red feathery face, a spade shaped silhouette, glowing red/orange eyes, strange hissing sounds. The description is suspiciously similar to a female Barn Owl (Tyto Alba), specifically one in a fear response. This is what I mean by "lady", an ordinary female barn owl. Female barn owls sometimes have a reddish face, while males often have a white face. They are larger and more aggressive than males, and tend to make weird poses, and produce hissing sounds when threatened, similar to the sounds described at the scene. The glowing eyes are likely a result of light reflecting off the retina, as owls have extremely reflective eyes (one of the witnesses also had a flashlight). As for the dress-like structure, only Mrs. May seems to mention it, while everyone else only recalls seeing a floating head. Figment of imagination? One famous youtuber called Trey the Explainer, proposes that the lower body was nothing more than a misinterpretation of a tree or bush. Below is a drawing of a Barn Owl posed in a matter similar to the Flatwood's Monster, and it does bear quite a resemblance to its supposed head.

While I knew a decent amount of the information you had presented to me from research I had done before drawing the Flatwoods Monster, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to give me this info as well as your beliefs as to what the creature was.
While I personally agree with the female barn owl theory, the monster that came out of this event was fun to theorize about and draw. I drew it just because of a friend from class.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my drawing, and I'm sorry for taking as long as I did to reply. I'm not able to be as active on DeviantArt as I want to be.
