How the world killed Elizabeth Comstock... Anna DeWitt, if you will... one horror at a time.

I noticed the different brooches, and I'm glad you used both of them. What do you think they symbolize? Since I've seen different interpretations of them.

Thanks! My interpretation is basically the same as everyone else': the bird represents Elizabeth's freedom, in regards to her body, leaving the tower, positive emotions, her choices, open future; and the cage represents stagnation, lack of power, negative emotions, a fixed future.
The bird is who Elizabeth can be, who she deserves to be, who she wants to be. The cage is who she is forced to be, does not want to be, who she is stuck as.
The bird means she has control over her own life. The cage means she is under the control of other people or things.
It's a very clear metaphor, either she is a bird that can fly with freedom, or she is stuck in a cage with no control over herself or her future.

Ok cool! I figured the bird = good, and cage = bad, but just wanted to make sure so I didn't misinterpret.
For ex. I saw one version of someone saying that, since the bird on the brooch is facing downwards, that its falling rather than flying, and that is also represented the Songbird, her terrible guardian. On the other hand, the cage represents safety and protection (Booker maybe?) from the things in the world that want to hurt and abuse her. Its not a popular theory, but since Infinite is so full of symbolism, I think its fitting that the bird and the cage might have dual meanings. Although I have to agree, I think the cage has a lot more negative connotations.

I think it's open to each individual's interpretation, there is no right or wrong answer!
Oohhh, that's a super interesting theory! I can totally see that! I never really noticed that the bird is pointed downwards, and the cage definitely could be a symbol for safety. But also, what would they mean to Elizabeth? Elizabeth clearly doesn't want to be caged in. And Booker never equated safety to her, but freedom. Elizabeth is put in more dangerous situations than ever when she is with Booker. Safety isn't a good thing for her; if safety is what she wanted she would have stayed in the Tower. She wanted freedom. She was safe in the tower, but she wasn't happy. She learned how to pick locks because she was constantly trying to escape for years. She was actually caged in her entire life, but when Booker comes along she's finally able to spread her wings and fly.

lol right Booker did free her, I forgot he kind of broke into the tower. He also keeps her safe from Comstock and Songbird (well, he tries). I think it the cage also represents the safety of home, of the familiar world -- i.e. her tower, where everything makes sense, everything works, all her stuff is there, and no one is secretly spying on her and treating her like a science experiment. Choosing to leave the cage is a big step, because it means she's willing to go into the dangerous unknown, where her fate is a variable, and everything is turned upside down when her true powers are unleashed. And she can go to Paris
I think I always choose the bird anyways, haha. The only thing that bothers me is that the choice of the brooch doesn't change anything in the game, but I don't think any choice matters, so maybe it makes sense.
