Backstory: This is Gabriella "Gabby" Lachance, Gordie's twin sister. Gabby loves it when her brother makes up and tells her stories to make her feel better when she's down, as she is a little more child-like and sensitive. She also had a close relationship with their older brother, Denny, but after he died, Gabby grew very timid, and has a hard time making friends. She also has a habit of tagging along with her brother whenever he hangs out with Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tessio, much to the other boys' dismay. When Vern hears about a dead body in the woods and decides to bring his friends along with him to find the body, Gabby threatens Gordie that she will tell their mother and get him grounded. Vern and the other boys insist to the twins that they will become "local heroes" if they find the body, and Gabby, being a gullible girl, is amazed; since Gordie and Gabby's parents are too busy grieving Denny's death, Gabby instead tells her parents that she and Gordie are going "camping" with their friends. Along their coming-of-age journey, Gabby learns to face her fears of the dark, being alone, and growing into a teenager.
