Ahhhh, I'm not a rooster, but this is one of my favorites. I love the red and white together - I think, with the contrast between the two, this is one of the most striking of the set.

This is Gorgeous. It's funny that I'm a water rooster, but my western sign is a Leo, and it's a fire sign.

Not so much based off research, but just off of natural intuition when someone actually sees this. The hoar white frost over the lashes better invokes the innocence of the pure of heart rabbit, just as the gems over your rabbit's eyes look seem better suited for the scrupulous and more materialistically inclined rooster.

Should trade eyelash design with the Rabbit on this. The white hoar frost places a metal element connotation over this one. From reading up specifically on the 5 elements in Chinese alchemy and their metaphysical properties, the Boar, Sheep, and Rabbit are better suited to be categorized as metal signs. The Cock, Snake, and Ox likewise are more fit to be deemed as water signs. The northern (water) direction of the Stream on the Ba Gua is associated with money, death, and financial dealings as are the signs of the Rooster, Ox, and Snake (death and rebirth on this sign's part). The west and northwest (metal) directions of Heaven and the Lake are associated with raw creative potential fostered by peace and emotional serenity as are the signs of the Pig, Sheep, and Rabbit. Snow and frost are usually associated with the metaphysical Chinese element of metal as snow seems to symbolically fit the niche of purity and pristine artfulness.
The Boar and the Snake may also be exchanged in design. The lunar month of the Boar falls in November, so the ferric autumn red look may be better suited for the sign. Likewise, the design of your Pig may be more appropriate for the Snake just as the gem look of your Rabbit may be better suited for the rooster. The watery Venusian feel better evokes the fresh moisture and seasonal tide of fertility following the April showers precedent to the month of the Snake.

The reason why the colors are as they are on these manipulations is based on literature I used, where their respective dominant colors are were used for each eye instead of dominant element. At the time I never read anything about a dominant element but even if I had, the element of each sign still changes each time a sign is, for lack of a better word, active. So I wouldn't want to make, say, a water rooster, when in fact not everyone who was born under this sign is a water rooster. I felt it was better to design them by their dominant colors.

The month of the Rooster falls in the late summer, it's corresponding western zodiac sign being Virgo or a heliocentric Piscis. So it's primary element can be said to be fire (the Chinese actually say it's metal, though is based off the older Pa Kua cycle in which metal is associated with the Summer or South).
It's secondary element is based off of the same altering cycle used in the western zodiac. The rooster and its triangle of affinity should be associated with the element of water based off of its underlying metaphysical traits, just as Piscis, Scorpio, and Cancer are. If you use heliocentric astrology, these three star signs would sync up with the three animal signs in month. Scorpio is even alternatively symbolized by the Serpent, just as the Crab (or Turtle in ancient Egypt) is symbolic of an armoured, scuttling creature awkwardly plodding through its cosmic existence, the same as the Ox or Water Buffalo would be symbolic of a cosmic entity slowly trudging forward through her destiny.
The individual given year of a sign also has an alternating tertiary sub-ruling element. 2005, the last year of the rooster was sub-ruled by the element of wood, just as the next year of the sign will be sub-ruled by fire.
So in short, though it's overruling element may be fire based off of the more up to date Pa Kua arrangement, its defining element could be said to be water. This is based off my own independent reading on Chinese astrology and the five or eight basic phases in the scheme of changes from the I Ching also applied to Feng Shui. The unique tertiary sub-ruling element only exists to further color the individual year of a given sign.

I didn't go into extreme detail with these so as not to confuse the hell out of the people who see them. These were done for fun, not for 100% flawless accuracy. So the way most people tend to see it, is that the sign of the Rooster and all other signs span over their corresponding year. Placing them together with the western zodiacs or anything deeper than that would just take the fun right out of it, and is something that is meant for a research paper. It's better to keep it basic.

I see what you are saying, but for me the main issue was maintaining continuity among the Chinese images...I thought some of the polar sign pairs, i.e. the Rabbit and Hen could be flip flopped in eyelash and eye lining imagery to evoke what is more appropriate for each sign. The eye color may then adjusted accordingly...
