Description
Holy heck in a hand basket. @.@ This came out a lot better than I expected it to. You ever finish doing line art on something and are almost afraid to color it because you're afraid you'll ruin it? Yeah, that was this picture. I literally stared at the line art for twenty minutes trying to figure out the best colors, how I'd shade it, etc. Sorry for everyone waiting on plushies! I've had this picture in my head for awhile and it was bothering me to the point of having trouble working on everything else because I was thinking about it so much.
A little back story! This is Leaf and is the prototype for Kuja's attempt at making a faerie-like mage by combining a Dragonfly's essence (the monster from the game and not an actual dragonfly) along with the black magic and 'dredge of souls' that make a black mage. This was mostly because he doesn't have much else to do with his time than tinker with other life-forms even when he's not being a villain. Now, being a man obsessed with power and perfection, he was positively disgusted when his hopefully ethereal faerie hatched from its Mist egg as little more than a writhing, stinging, biting larva(decidedly less cute than my first iteration of Leaf's
'baby' picture
). Although Kuja's first instinct would normally be to kill it with fire, his tryst at the Iifa Tree with his brother made him a bit more merciful, and instead simply threw the abomination into the desert surrounding his lair beneath the sands. Such a nice man.
Fortunately for Leaf, burrowing is a rather natural instinct for larval Dragonflies and Kuja didn't toss the mage too far from his underground palace, which, after quite a bit of digging landed Leaf in the lesser kempt storage areas of Kuja's home. He did what most larvae do best, eating everything in sight, and eventually made himself a nice little cocoon in Kuja's root cellar. Needless to say when the former villain came to retrieve his potatoes, carrots and jams for the week, he found a rather nasty surprise. Of course, Kuja was now rather curious about what exactly it was and simply kept a close eye on the cocoon, having no idea it was his creation until Leaf finally emerged.
I'd imagine that Leaf wouldn't have many memories before he popped out of the cocoon, seeing as he was surviving on instinct and didn't really have a very developed sense of self. So, that being said, Leaf didn't remember Kuja attempting to get rid of him by tossing him in the desert. XD
