Description (the image here is about twice as large as the actual piece)

I had an idea sometime last month to make a sort of... natural history sketch set, where the items of interest are actually actual size.  And what better thing to represent than the seed cones and seeds of a Giant Sequoia.  Can you believe that they start out so small???  Average seeds are about 2 millimeters and the cones can get up to 6 or 7 centimeters.  The trees themselves can live over 2000 years, over 300 feet (91 meters) tall, and have a total volume of about 52500 cubic feet (1486.6 cubic meters)!  They aren't the tallest trees on earth, but by volume they are the largest living organism on Earth.  And they start out so small :]

This was my first adventure with watercolor in quite some time.  I learned something important: wait for other colors to dry before adding another, unless you want it to bleed all over the place.  *glares at green cone*

crayola watercolors, crayola crayons, graphite, and ink on 4 x 6 inch watercolor paper

The next thing in this series will probably be that pretty blue sea slug thing.  Because I wanna.  I'm open to suggestions though!

I may be interested in making custom pieces in this style, selling the original artwork, or making prints of this piece.  Postcards would be neat.  But not through dA.  Note me if you are interested!
