Description Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow, sorrow for the lost Lenore

It's indeed a pleasure for you to meet me!Β  (I often say that on meeting Spaniards who think they've got a reasonable level of English...You can hear confusion clog dancing inside their heads long after the introduction ...Deep down I'm an evil bastard and on the surface too!)

Have you tried adding a gradually increased subtle blur to imply focus on a specific area? I think it would help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to glassocean [2014-04-13 10:46:11 +0000 UTC]

I did

At first I rendered unbiased with an F-stop of 1, however, unbiased and displacement (beard/hair) hate each other and it would have taken hours to render. So I tried again using a biased render with DoF set at 5% - Far too much!!! (I lost the reflection in the window and the "Good Bye" on the oiuja board)
This one is rendered with Front/Back DoF at just 1% - Obviously too little!

You put me to shame

This was never meant to be seen by anyone other than the small group of Deviants that follow me regularly (it's even half normal size), I spent the night keeping vigil on a sick family member and rather than stare at the wall I did this, hence my embarrasment at the DD
'Tis indeed SSS on the skin and the candle .... It's nice when people notice these things

Oh, you're making me wish I hadn't skipped past all of Poe's poetry to the short stories.

I regret doing this somewhat, but I can better appreciate short stories than poetry.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to Razgriz-3 [2014-04-13 12:43:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't usually like poetry either I think the wonderful Vincent Price has a lot to do with Poe's success in the UK.
Plus his short stories are very entertaining - Everyone rants about Sherlock Holmes but isn't Poe's "Murders in the Rue Morgue" exactly that, except written 20 years earlier?
To me, he's a great unsung hero of literature

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Razgriz-3 In reply to madaigual [2014-04-13 20:07:41 +0000 UTC]

I like Poe. I feel like- actually, no, Lovecraft totally looked up to him. Personally I had trouble with a lot of the archaisms of Poe's writing (I speak neither French nor Latin, Mr. Poe!) but he still was quite original. Also, he wrote the first sci-fi story, with the one about the balloon that goes to space. I forget the exact name.

Β  Very many thanks

Β  Before I went to bed last night I started to model a scene that I've always wanted to do... Today I discovered that this one was a DD Β and I've spent the whole day answering messages... Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy people like it but, without sounding ungrateful, I'm also very sad I didn't have a chance to do what I wanted to do, i.e. More! ...It'll be Monday again soon

Seothen [2014-04-12 23:03:09 +0000 UTC]

It's interesting, though the reflections seem more like items on the other side of the glass than reflections - was this intentional? Β It makes sense as a bust of Pallas but not so much for the scope.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

madaigual In reply to Seothen [2014-04-12 23:40:52 +0000 UTC]

The reflection in the window is in fact him, he's very white (almost spectral) because the moonlight is set at 400% in order to generate the rays. I needed the telescope to frame his reflection and make it clear. The reflection of the telescope is quite obvious and this leads down to his reflection. Without it, his reflection just looks like something else in the room.
Now you come to mention it I could have put a door and a bust of Pallas on his left, reflected in the window too Β Β Β  As always could've, should've, would've... Next time!

Thanks for your comment
