Description
Eeko headed up the long spiraling staircase as she thought about the one she would ask for help for the upcoming preparations for the trick or treating. It was Novo Moore who she would ask, and she hoped that he would agree. There were some concerns that he would not, though. He wasn’t a very social adult, and outside of his roommate and two friends, he didn’t really do much other than help with the library. It was something that Baba Eeko could understand somewhat, being awkward herself at times, but with so many kits going around the great tree, they needed all the help that they could get.
Once she arrived at the room she knocked on the door, it gently swung open, showing a Novo in a book about the constellations of the old world. Eeko hesitated for a moment, they didn’t want to disturb Novo in the middle of a book that they were sure he was enjoying. That was overridden though when she thought about Runa, the equally introverted kit she was asking Novo to help with. “Sorry to bother you Novo, but I need something from you. Nana and Susan have already asked a lot of adults to help out, but I had you in mind for a special kit to prepare for trick or treating.” Eeko filled the air with a polite request.
“Oh, I didn’t realize that was today.” Novo looked up at the Den Mother and nodded a bit.
“Yes, it is, I want you to help me with a kit named Runa Treat. I would have others help, but I think someone like yourself would be good.” Eeko admitted.
“Okay, what are they like?”
“Well, they are a very tired kit that doesn’t socialize much outside of required activities, and Nana has been trying to get them to socialize more. It has been working somewhat, but I was thinking maybe you could help her get a few friends outside of her group.”
“I could try, but I don’t know how helpful I would be. I only have a couple friends besides Melody.”
“I know, but maybe her seeing that you have a couple friends without us guiding you will help.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
Novo bookmarked his book before slowly closing its covers. He got up from his sitting position on the floor, and started to head towards Eeko, giving her a nod. Eeko picked up the sigil, and started to head down the stairs with him quietly. There was not much noise other than the background of other adults helping kits with the things that they needed for their trick or treating. He headed down to the lowest floor behind Eeko, Eeko heading into Runa’s room first. Novo waited at the outside of the door, figuring that Eeko would talk to them before he helped.
“Good news Runa! I found someone to help you prepare for tonight’s festivities, of course, remember that you need to be careful tonight.” Eeko gently spoke.
“Oh, who is it?” Runa asked, looking up at Baba Eeko in curiosity.
“Its Novo Moore, he is one of our younger adults, he is similar to you in some ways, not being very social, but he did offer to help.”
“O-okay.”
Runa looked nervously out the door and saw that Novo was there at the door, and Novo took this time to very carefully approach. Novo headed to her very slowly, and looked at her robe and hat before grabbing them. He had never done this before, both helping with something like this and getting a knot tied for the robe to fit on properly. Before doing anything else, he looked back at Eeko nervously, who gave him a thumbs up in reassurance. He started to put the robe around Runa and tied the knot. It was a little loose, but he didn’t want to make it too tight. He looked at it carefully, nervously sweating underneath his feathers. Runa gave him a nervous smile before he gently put the hat on her head and gave her the bag that all the trick or treaters were using to collect their spoils.
“B-be careful alright, and be sure to try to make some friends.” Novo blurted out.
“I-i can try.” Runa replied.
The awkwardness between the two was obvious, but it was Eeko’s hope that them both going through this challenge would help them both. She waited to see if anything else would happen.
“Actually, I could go with your group with you if you want. I know that it can be scary on nights like this.” Novo offered.
“I-i think that would be nice.” Runa replied.
Eeko couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief, but they tried to keep it quiet. Even though they both didn’t know what they were doing, they knew that Novo would do well. As they continued their conversation about the trail, Eeko headed out. There were a few more kits that needed help after all. This had given Eeko hope for both of them though, and their warmed heart took that to the aid that they would need to supply for the others.
