Description This is one of my art projects for school. Its...*dundundun*...pointillism.
And boy, did it ever test me. My patience and my skill.
But I think it was totally worth it. The image I reffed off of (a picture from a National Geographic magazine) was absolutely stunning and my teacher was the one that convinced me to try it. I personally didn't think it would turn out at all.

So I guess that means I'm actually proud of something I did.

Aren't tree frogs absolutely darling?<3

Done with about 5 different coloured pens. And probably over 4 hours.

Dayum. That is mind blowing! I don't have the patients, but the way yours came out, it really makes me wanna do one!

It almost killed me.
Towards the end I was literally going "one more dot, one more dot, one more..."
Then I'd hit my head against the desk a few times and then continue.

This looks so nice. I haven't seen your paperpiecing one yet though. You should upload it. Would it work?

Yes, I doubt I need to tell you it's amazing, since you obviously already know that.

Homahgawd, froggy. o3o

I applaud you for your patience with this, pointillism is absolutely the worst thing ever for a lot of people...including me. I have patience to spare, but pointillism is just on a whole different level... >>;

It turned out beautifully though.

LuxDani In reply to darklittlefroggy [2007-11-18 02:42:43 +0000 UTC]

Pointillism is definitely a test. A test that I almost failed. I had only the back right leg to do and I almost died. I started just placing dots everywhere to try and finish it. Thats why it looks crappy.

Thanks.<3

I'll find it this weekend and post a link over here for you, k?

Ho mai goodness. _

Pointillism demands more patience than trying to catch a Mewtwo with a Great Ball! |D
/pokenerd

Oh but seriously. My kudos to you for having such patience and coming up with something so...original. You could've chosen an elk, a wolf ( :U ) or something in the ordinary. But OMG a darling tree frog. <3

Referenced or no, that is gorgeous. And the dots actually fit quite nicely-from far away it looks like it was naturally drawn. 8D

LuxDani In reply to dragonheroes [2007-11-18 02:40:11 +0000 UTC]

Hah, yes it does. XDD

Yeah, I'm trying to get away from the typical critters. I did this frog, and I'm working on a humpback whale right now in artclass. Except its in paper piecing and I want to frikkin rip it in two. DX

Frogs are adorable. I'm tempted to do a big series with a bunch of tropical frogs like poison dart frogs and such.

Merci buckets Seaweed.

Paper piecing? |D
I did that before once...I did end up ripping it in two. Ho mai.

Poison dart frogs are marvelous creatures. I have a set of plastic figurines of them! Haha, they're so cute and colorful. :]

bluegonturan [2007-11-13 02:42:01 +0000 UTC]

I did a B&W pointillism still life of a hammer once. For class. Convinced me to stick with cross-hatching. heh. As a style I really don't think pointillism works well for an entire piece. That frog is sweet, though. I don't know if I'd have the patience to do pointillism in color.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuxDani In reply to bluegonturan [2007-11-18 02:36:50 +0000 UTC]

I agree, pointillism just doesn't really work for an entire piece. I find it makes it harder to make something stand out. Besides, it would take much too long.
Colour was what made this piece so much more trying. The actual way that you are supposed to shade while doing pointillism wasn't used at all. You're supposed to make the dots closer together and more of them for the shadows, and less for the highlights but I ditched that and just used darker colours for the shadows.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bluegonturan In reply to LuxDani [2007-11-18 08:26:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think using that different way of shading would have made a difference, but it would've been such a pain in the a$$. Looks good, though.

Beautifully done!

LuxDani In reply to miro-kaisou [2007-11-18 02:33:40 +0000 UTC]

Hurhur, you don't know how much patience it took. And I'm not the most patient person in the first place. Towards the end I was tempted to leave it without its right back leg.
And thankyou.
