Shep is my handsome boy. He's not around for most of the story, but he's still talked about with fondness, respect, and the hope he'll return home someday.
Spoiler, he reappears and crashes the wedding between his sister and Richard after the curse is broken. I like to imagine that he tries his hardest to grow a beard but that's the best he can do.
