Donr for school project. Objective is to create 3 panels of photomanipulated pieces, to support a theory you are to come up with, based on Tim Cresswell's "Place: A Short Introduction".

I couldn't find the book, so i depended on some page extracts from the net, and just tried to 'smoke my way thru' .. hahaha...

Truth is, i'm not satisfied with what theory i have written, think it really needs further improvement. Oh well, i'm too tired to think further, since i've submitted all my work already. For now.

Theory:

Theme: Earth, Heaven, Hell

There are many definitions of the word "Place". And it is interesting to observe the relationship between a place and people, for they would affect one another. A place can influence the people living there and their culture, while humans can change and shape a place. Sometimes a place also reflects who and what people are. Based on this thought, I would like to show that human condition and nature are reflected in the metaphysical places known as ‘Heaven’ and ‘Hell’, as well as that of ‘Earth’.

Heaven

When we think of all that is good, we think of Heaven. It is the wonderful and beautiful place of Eternal rest, where there are no wars, tears, suffering, hunger, or sin. Instead, people will be perfected, able to fully live out virtues such as love, joy, kindness, patience, forbearance, truth, righteousness, self-control, and selflessness. Everything is as it was in the Beginning in the Garden of Eden. Living in Perfect Paradise and in the Master’s joy, the way we were made to be.

While we have yet to see that on Earth, we still see some reflection of it in the human character. We can still wait in anticipation for the gates of Heaven to be open to us, when we have the right assurance. Since we see its qualities in this world, perhaps we can ponder if it is as real as we are.

Hell
So Hell is everything that Heaven is not. There will be no stop to the gnashing of teeth, as it is a broken, barren place that only knows eternal suffering and despair. There, the evilness of man is in full and uncontrolled view. It is every man for himself, all are vicious, malicious, full of hatred. The Source of joy and peace is not there, and there is no long access it Heaven. In the midst of it all, is the destructive Lake of Fire, and all who fall into it are forever ‘dead’, and there is no way out of Hell.

Who starts wars and fights? Who chooses to act selfishly, tramping on the toes of others to get what they want? The list goes on. It’s pointless to point fingers at anyone. Who deserves to go perfect Heaven anyway?

Earth
And where does that leave Earth? It is the road between Heaven and Hell. All man pass through life as if on a journey. Their choices and actions lead them to either place at the end. There really isn’t an ‘alternative route’, for anyone who tries to walk down middle (of the picture), will find they way blocked. Sometimes we see the road, and make the effort to walk it consciously. But many times we simply choose to focus on the ‘here and now’, without looking ahead.

A question we can all ask ourselves is, “where will I go after I die?” Within oneself, do you reflect ‘more of Heaven’, or ‘more of Hell’?
