Description The great rock warrior and his sassy mistress on a quest to travel through the badlands! The warrior loves battle and he designed himself torso armor made of stone (its as light as paper to him lol) and carries a special blade made of crystals that allows him to utilize elemental powers (ice perhaps?). His mistress on the other hand is quite a skilled melee fighter, got lots of confidence and unlike the rock warrior, she doesn't waste time in battle! Meh, I'd imagine they could fit in a fantasy RPG quest type universe where the player could play as either one and switch to the other depending on what task their trying to complete while also trying to fight through hordes of monsters.

All done in Photoshop! ~20 hours or so from start of the sketch to the finished painting! Oh and be sure to zoom in to the image to get a better view of the detail!

EDIT 9/11 - Sorry for replying to the critiques so late. Been suuuuuuuuuuper busy in the past week or so but I am back on my game, now time to respond

Interesting concept! I like the antithesis between the characters: I would have made her a magic user, but I think you wanted something different from usual. Anyway, the characters look good, they complete each other both phisically and mentally, and even if they have a quite simple design, they still are detailed. The background creates the perfect atmosphere for their quests, dark, stormy, and with a fiery lava river, quite balanced. One part that makes me smile is the irony: they're fighters, they do battle...both of them wear a hippie symbol! I find it quite amusing!

Contrast of positives and negatives was actually a major theme I had going for this image. I wanted to make them both opposites of each other as if they are incomplete without one another. Lol I didnt even think about the peace symbol meaning that but I suppose it can. I always find it interesting how other people see things in my art that I never notice until after the fact. Anyways I'm glad you liked the concept

Hello i´m from

So we have quite good characters here, the kind of characters that somehow make a dinamic duo. Now, the level of detail you put on each of them is unique and one could say is high detail. the coloring is just perfect and is one the most noticeable parts of this pice. Then the drawing on certain parts has its flaws, i feel that the misstres left eye (i think) is smaller compared to the right eye, however its a minor detail but correcting this can help to reduce those "minor details".
What can be improved, well, if you take a look on how you colored and used the same skin tones to make the "line art", well use that similar techinque on their hair to add more detail, i can see that you are ready to take that step and give it a try, if this is awsome, imagine it with such detailing and texturing!!! But wait there´s more! THE. BACKGROUND.  See i know the feeling when you dedicate most of those 20 hrs in the characters and then all you want to do is a good background but not wanting to spend other 10+ hrs on that ( i mysefl tend to that )... dedicate bit more patince on that background, now i dunno if you acctually wanted to make it on propurse to focus the attention the characters, tell me if thats the case.
Anyways, the image is a masterpice and i hope to see more of your awsome characters, i see another promising story!!
Don´t stop Keep going !!!!
P.D: SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH, HOPE ITS UNDERTANDABLE

Great critique . The issue with backgrounds I think comes from the order (process) in which I create them. I almost always start with a character design first, complete it first then do the background. I think I have a new process that will allow me to not only get the background better but also to help with more consistent rendering/texturing.

Alright! Here comes the ultra amazing critique from projectcomment.deviantart.com/
First off, I wand to say, the background rocks! Those looming clouds add mystery and depth to the picture. I like it how lava seems to be flowing and the cliff is real neat! The rock dude's ice sword in A-mazing! I really like the character designs and color scheme. The big fellow looks super tough and very loyal in my opinion. While the lady seems to be extremely agile and ready for just about anything! Just the sight of this all makes me want to make it into a game! I'm supposed to point out mistakes to help you improve this but I can really find any It's just too flawless!
It does look a wee bit blurry but that's not a bad effect. The expressions on their faces match very well and gives them both loads of personality. There's loads of detail and it's fleshed out wonderfully! Truly an amazing work of art! Makes me want to go on an adventure! Congratulations on an amazing work of art! You certainly have dedication, working on this 20 hours!
I hope this helps any or brightens your day or night!

Glad you liked it and as far as the blurriness, I think that may be because of how Photoshop downsizes an image with its resample filter. Today I was exporting an image and when I changed the resample filter, I noticed how much closer it looked to the original without the blurriness despite me shrinking down the px resolution by quite a bit.

Great use of colours to create this piece. I can see you have studied your colour and light theory pretty intensely and it has definitely payed off big time.  That is the main thing I noticed in this piece. Another thing I noticed is that your anatomy, although it is not yet perfect, it is still really well done. One thing that I think needs improvement is background detail. You have a great background going on, which can be tricky to draw, I'll be honest here, even I have a difficult time drawing backgrounds. JYou should put more into your backgrounds! Just like with your focal point of the image, the two characters in the middle who are coloured and drawn with immense attention to detail, so should your background. Put a bit more colour in there? Don't just leave it (especially the sky, because where is the light that's hitting the characters coming from?) grayscale. Just some food for thought but overall a very impressive piece.

Color and light are my favorite two parts of painting actually so I'm glad its showing . With the background, good suggestions and I'll definitely apply those points to my next design. Thanks for the critique though
