Description
Lilly only needed to adjust the hem, and Lilac was just her height. His grandmother’s voice broke the tension of waiting as his mother was summoned to receive her own scolding for his behavior as they gathered hurriedly into their grandfather’s old office.
“I find these two playing on the damn sewing machine-"
‘That’s a lie!” Nicholas all but shouted. His voice shrill with indignation.
Grandmother’s retribution was fast. She dropped Lilly’s arm and strode over to him in two short steps. The sound of flesh meeting flesh rang out dull and splitting in the quiet office. Nicholas’s face would smart for several hours and Lilly’s bruise would be deep and lasting, but he refused this injustice. Grandmother had lied plain as day, (“bald headed”, he was sure the term went from Aunt Mistletoe.) Didn’t Frith teach that it was wrong to lie?
‘It’s a lie it’s a LIE IT’S A LIE!’ He screamed repeatedly between the echoing smacks. Lilly cowered on the floor and he heard his mother gasp from somewhere in the room and knew he should stop, he couldn’t protect anyone like this, but staying quiet upset his stomach. Lying was Wrong.
He stared defiantly into the crone’s face. She set him with a sneer. Her eyes traveled down to the messy hem and tattered ribbons falling down his skinny hips. Cold tears burned in the corners of his eyes as he watched his grandmother change gears. She could only punish him so much for any one crime, Frith was merciful, was he not? But she’d found a loophole, Nicholas knew. He braced himself for whatever this newest charge might be.
“This boy isn’t Right in the head.”

Excerpts written by myself and from CoSCoN II Arc 2, Lost.
Line art and Felicity (Lilly) belong to me, Nick (Lilac) belongs to Alys.
