"THREAD: As Roe v Wade trends.

The people of Ireland deeply remember Savita Halappanavar.  If the people of the United States have not heard this story, please read.  If you feel comfortable.

In Oct 2012, Savita arrived in an Irish hospital, complaining of lower back pain that had lasted for around 12 hours.  She was 17 weeks into her first pregnancy.

After examination, doctors found out that Savita's pregnancy was inevitably going to fail due to complications and she was admitted that same day.  Her water then broke but the fetus was not expelled.

Savita and her husband asked whether she could be induced if the pregnancy failed.  And they knew they needed to act to save Savita's life.  They were told by a consultant that this was not possible under Irish law, as abortion was illegal.

Savita's condition drastically worsened.

Oct 26: She was diagnosed with sepsis.  That same day she miscarried.

Oct 25: She entered ICU.

Oct 28: Savita passed away.

The cause of her death was noted as multi-organ failure following sepsis and E. coli infection.

America, Ireland is not perfect.  No country is.  This happened in 2012.  Please learn from us.  Our history, our horrors, none of which can be taken back.
