Description Based on the sky city described in Robert E. Vardeman and Victor Milan's great fantasy series, 'The war of the powers'. The sky city is built on a huge slab of magically levitating rock. I may extend the city to the right so it pokes up out of the clouds to the right hand side.

Looking at the bottom darker part of the city, I think there is something more to this piece....

very true - if you read the novels that inspired me - the sky city was built by an ancient race of sorta lizard people but then later colonised by the 'sky people' where were human. So the idea was to show a kinda mismatch of architecture!

Oh yeah hehehe a classic to be sure... inspired a whole generation of fantasy art. People really weren't painting that kind of thing before him (if I'm not mistaken) thank you

Excellent work here.Β  The combination of small details with the sweeping vista serves to create a really powerful impact - this feels like a real world, to some degree.

Hey thanks! I guess it looks realistic because 90% of the painting is actually real life - as in this is what I saw on my bike ride - there was this crazy cloud that was hitting the mountain line and the impact made it explode upwards. I was maybe 3000 metres high and the edges were super crisp. So I kept stopping and taking photos of it - and when I got home I decided to do an environment study but add some extra stuff.

Thanks! This was inspired by a bike ride I took the other day. I took a photo of the mountains and this crazy cloud and thought, wouldn't it be cool if there was a city coming through?
